Lack of mobility preventing returning to F1: Kubica

Robert Kubica has revealed that it is the lack of space in the cockpit that is preventing him from making a return to Formula One.

Kubica was victim of a serious rally accident in February 2011 that severely damaged his right hand, rendering him with partial mobility loss in his digits.

Even though Kubica managed to recover and take up rallying once again in the process, he has cited the lack of mobility within the confines of an F1 car as the main reason he is not considering a return.

“I have suffered big injuries in the rally crash, but I am still lucky I am able to drive on a high level, although not any more in F1,” Kubica told the BBC.

“Driving F1 would not be such a big problem, the problem would be to drive a complete race in all circuits but unfortunately that is not possible for now. The problem in F1 is the space. Maybe one day if the FIA say the car has to be 10-15 cm wider, I can drive – but it is not that rally is second choice.”

Kubica has also added that as long he has the goal of returning to F1 in mind, he will remain motivated, but nevertheless refused to give an estimated time period as to when he would be making a comeback to the F1 scene.
