Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has said that Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull and joining the Silverstone-based squad is not out of the question, and the door is always open for the Dutch driver. The question arose since Verstappen's former stablemate Adrian Newey had left the Austrian team to join Lawrence Stroll's squad.
Verstappen is part of Red Bull and has a contract until the end of the 2028 F1 season. However, in our sport, all of these long-term contracts have exit clauses that give drivers enough wiggle room. The Austrian team is struggling to keep everything together as it continues to leak resources and struggle with on-track performance.
Even though Red Bull started the season strongly, the trajectory is worrying now. There have already been reports that Verstappen is looking for a way out of the team. Newey joining Aston Martin has opened the possibility of the Dutch driver moving to Silverstone.
The question was put forward to Mike Krack, who said that the door to any team is open for Max Verstappen. He told the media, including RacingNews365:
"The door for Max Verstappen is always open, for everything. When you manage to appoint Adrian Newey, first of all, it is proof that the project is credible, that the whole vision of Lawrence is not just words, but it is real action that we can take confidence from as a team."
"This is not an underdog team like it used to be in the past, it is a team that should be confident it can do it, but also you now have a completely different approach with partners and drivers. (Signing Newey) opens a lot of doors for the future."
Krack also used Adrian Newey's signing with Aston Martin as further proof of increased credibility for the team.
Adrian Newey provides Aston Martin extra credibility to lure talents like Max Verstappen, Mike Krack says
Aston Martin has some of the best facilities in F1, and some impressive talent is already part of the outfit. When Adrian Newey gets added to the mix, it makes it much easier to lure talents like Max Verstappen to the squad, Mike Krack said (via RacingNews365):
"We will be more attractive in every area just because of signing (Newey) due to the increased credibility as it proves the project can really achieve the targets, and if I was in university and would see this signing, I would say: 'I can probably learn most there, so let's try to get there.' So I think there will be that effect."
Verstappen is on the back foot in the championship battle against Lando Norris. The Red Bull driver holds a 62-point lead but the car is fourth fastest right now making things hard to defend despite the championship advantage.
