Monaco GP: Driver of the Day with Fans' Views

RachF1

After a rather boring and uneventful 25 laps, the Monaco Grand Prix came to life after the first round of pit stops. There were plenty of accidents which brought the Safety Car twice and red flag once. Nico Rosberg maintained his lead throughout the race to win an eventful Monaco Grand Prix, 30 years after his father achieved the same feat. Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber didn’t put a foot wrong and finished in second and third place. Adrian Sutil put on some great moves over Alonso and Button at the hairpin to finish in fifth place. These were just a few drivers who impressed us, but who was YOUR driver of the day?

Nico Rosberg – 10/10

Nico Rosberg dominated the whole weekend, topping each of the three practice sessions and putting his car on pole on Saturday in changing conditions. He held off Hamilton at the start of the race and maintained a 1.5 second lead by the first round of pit stops. The Safety Car came at the right time, giving him a free pit stop. He then held the lead after the restart from Vettel and Webber who gained over Hamilton during the Safety Car period. Two more interruptions in form of a red flag and a Safety Car didn’t stop the German as he took his second win of the career and first at Monaco.

Sebastian Vettel – 8/10

Sebastian Vettel didn’t put a foot wrong in the Monaco Grand Prix to take 2nd place in the race and extend his lead to 21 points in the championship. After looking rather slow on Thursday, he found his pace in qualifying and put his car on the second row of the grid. He overtook Hamilton after the first pit stop and then held on to second position. With Alonso and Raikkonen only finishing in 7th and 10th place, the race turned out to be a crucial one for the defending world champion.

Adrian Sutil 8/10

Adrian Sutil qualified in 8th place for the race but lost that place to Jenson Button. He charged during the second half of the race, putting on some emphatic moves over Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. He then benefited from the Perez-Raikkonen accident to finish the race in 5th place and help Force India extend their lead over McLaren in the constructors championship.

Kimi Raikkonen – 7/10

Kimi Raikkonen out-qualified Fernando Alonso to take 5th place on Saturday. He then stayed in this position for much of the race before a collision with Sergio Perez punctured one of his tyres and forced him to make a second stop with just 7 laps to go. After falling down to 16th place, he put on a emphatic charge and overtook Hulkenberg in the last lap to take the final championship point. It was because of this charge that we chose him as one of our drivers of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Paul Di Resta – 7/10

Paul di Resta was furious with the team on Saturday after a decision of not putting on fresh inters relegated him to 17th spot on the grid. His team took another wrong decision in the race when they pitted him on lap 9 in anticipation of the Safety Car. He would then had to pit again but the luck was with the Scotsman as the race was red flagged midway and he was able to get a free tyre change. The collision between Perez and Raikkonen helped him move up two places and take 2 points in his home Grand Prix.
