Rumors of Red Bull Racing looking at grabbing Williams Franco Colapinto for the 2025 season have been doing rounds in the F1 community. However, F1 pundit Karun Chandhok believes Christian Horner and co. should be looking at another Williams driver.
Since his debut during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Colapinto has surprised everyone in Formula 1 with his racecraft and mature driving style. While the Argentine youngster is without a full-time contract for next year, rumors of him entering the Red Bull camp began circulating in the paddock after team principal Horner visited Williams F1 motor home.
A video of the British team boss exiting from Williams premises was shared on X by ESPN's Argentina division. Here's a look at the post shared by a Red Bull Racing fan page:
"Christian Horner was seen leaving the Williams' hospitality before the start of FP1 by @ESPNArgentina"
While there is no confirmation regarding Colapinto yet, F1 pundit Chandhok shared a different opinion altogether. The Indian former racer believes Horner should be considering Carlos Sainz rather than the Williams rookie.
With Sergio Perez likely to exit the Austrian team soon, the current Ferrari driver could be an suitable replacement, keeping in mind his recent form. Chandhok shared his opinion by replying to the aforementioned post on X.
Here's a look at Chandhok's response:
"Hmm… If I was Horner, I would be negotiating a price to get Sainz into the big team & let Williams keep Colapinto. Yes yes, the Max camp apparently don’t want him but it’s been a decade since they were team mates (get over it!) & this year has shown they need 2 drivers scoring"
With Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari in 2025, Carlos Sainz chose to move to Williams F1. He has signed a multi-year deal with the iconic British team, starting from next season.
"We couldn’t really do much" - Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen on his disappointing F1 Brazilian Sprint Race
Max Verstappen ended the Brazilian Sprint Race in third place. The Red Bull Racing driver expressed disappointment during the post-race media interaction.
After overtaking Charles Leclerc for P3 on lap 16 of 24, Verstappen began charging behind the McLaren duo. However, his progress was halted after Nico Hulkenberg parked his Haas car on the side of the track, resulting in a Virtual Safety Car (VSC).
"I think the pace was quite strong. We just had to be patient, because in the beginning, we were just stuck in a DRS train. We couldn’t really do much, we just had to wait for people to either drop off or make a mistake," Verstappen explained.
"We hung in there, eventually I could pass Charles and close the gap to the McLarens, but then of course unfortunately the VSC came out – and that was race over," he added.
With title rival Lando Norris winning the Sprint Race, the gap between the Dutchman and Norris has now dropped to 45 points.
