Roger Federer admitted to being a Mercedes supporter while at the Miami Grand Prix and he continues to back Lewis Hamilton.

The Swiss star enjoyed a day trip down the F1 paddock on race day and talked about his favorite drivers.

Following his retirement in September, Federer has been making the most of his leisure time. On Sunday (May 7), he attended the Grand Prix in Miami. The former World No. 1 said it was his third season in Formula 1 since he had the opportunity to see more races. When asked about which driver he will be cheering on, he said:

"I still hope for Lewis he’s going to have a great race here and hopefully another great season. He’s been amazing, I’ve also gotten to meet Lewis on many occasions."

Lewis Hamilton started the race in P13 after getting eliminated in Q2. He faced some issues with his Mercedes but after a massive fight and lots of overtaking he ended up in P6 at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix.

Since 2022, Max Verstappen has dominated Formula 1. Since the incident in Abu Dhabi in 2021, Lewis Hamilton has been fighting for his eighth world championship. However, as Mercedes struggles to produce a competitive car, his desire seems to be fading. Lewis Hamilton's contract with Mercedes expires this year, and there have been whispers of his retirement for some time.

Toto Wolff praises Lewis Hamilton in his selfless act during the Miami Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton's selfless decision to allow teammate George Russell to pass without a struggle during the Miami Grand Prix earned Toto Wolff's high praise.

Russell, who started sixth, was always better positioned to contribute to Mercedes' success. But Hamilton had a terrible qualifying session and started from the 13th position on the grid, giving him a lot of work to get done during the race.

For Mercedes, race day ended up being considerably more satisfying. Russell advanced a few positions to secure fourth, and Hamilton overcame a sluggish start to the race to make several stunning overtakes on route to sixth.

The seven-time world champion continued to contribute by taking part in Russell's defense. When Russell pitted first and emerged behind his teammate, the radio was interrupted with instructions. The radio was to let Russell pass by as their fight was against Alpine's Esteban Ocon.

Toto said after the race:

"To see two teammates, both on very good levels, they are both so straightforward. That is good at such a difficult moment. The car was good today. From P13 it's pretty difficult if you start on the same strategy as everyone else to pass..."

Mercedes team boss Wolff praised over his drivers and claimed he was confident Lewis Hamilton would not cause any issue in such circumstances.
