Former F1 driver turned pundit Karun Chandhok recently spoke about how his campaign, 'Racing for India', failed to receive enough funding for him to get into the F3 championship. Although Chandhok eventually raced in the top single-seater racing series, things were not too easy for him.

On the Bring Back V10s podcast, Karun Chandhok, along with Ben Anderson and Glenn Freeman, discussed how Johnathan Palmer funded Justin Wilson's career, which allowed the latter to race in Formula 1.

Adding to this topic, Chandhok shared about how he tried to bring in funds for his own career by starting a campaign, which was inspired by what Johnathan Palmer did.

"I did, and I tried it and failed dismally. I tried a similar campaign, called 'Racing for India', when I was trying to get a budget for F3, and couldn't get enough of it. We just could not get the uptake.
"The idea came from what Justin and Johnathan Palmer did. I thought it was really smart," said the former Indian F1 driver.

Karun Chandhok finally raced in F1 in 2010, when he joined the Hispania Racing team alongside Bruno Senna. Unfortunately, he only competed in a few races in 2010 before being dropped. In 2011, he was part of Team Lotus as a reserve driver before leaving the sport for good.

Talks about F1's return to Indian soil underway

It was recently reported that talks to bring back F1 to the Buddh International Circuit in 2025 are underway. This is a massive first step in bringing the single-seater spectacle back to India.

According to the Times of India, senior representatives of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority have revealed that talks are in progress to bring back the sport, providing an exhilarating show for Indian fans.

The CEO of YEIDA, Arun Vir Singh, said that efforts are being made to bring the sport back to the country. A successful MotoGP race at the Buddh International Circuit in 2023 acted as a catalyst for the discussion as well.
