Max Verstappen claimed that he could do whatever he wanted during the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday as the RB20 was 'on rails'.

Verstappe, the three-time world champion, won at the Shanghai International Circuit for the first time in his career as he sailed through the race despite some safety car restarts during the middle.

The Red Bull driver started the race from pole position and never looked under any trouble throughout the race as he went about his race. He was unable to complete the set as Fernando Alonso took the fastest lap in his pursuit of finishing P6.

In his post-race interview, Max Verstappen mentioned that the RB20 was 'amazing' to drive as he did not face any trouble throughout the 57 laps to take his fourth race win in five races in 2024. He said:

"It felt amazing. The whole weekend we were incredibly quick. Just enjoyable to drive on every compound. We survived the restarts well and the car was basically on rails and I could do whatever I wanted with it.
"Those kinds of weekends are amazing to feel and to achieve what we did this weekend is fantastic."

Max Verstappen previews the Miami GP after his win in Shanghai

Max Verstappen stated that the Miami Autodrome was a 'completely different track' to Shanghai and the team would have to find the best setup to enable him to extract the maximum performance.

In his post-race press conference, the Dutch driver said:

"It’s a completely different track. You know, different tires, different tarmac, so you never know. We need to be perfect. Need to try and be perfect. We need to always try and find the best set-up on the car, you know, to be able to show performances like we did today.
"So that's what we'll try to do but also on the other hand I don't want to think about it too much now. First of all to go home, and then we will prepare like we always do and hopefully that's good enough when we get there."

Max Verstappen will go for a hattrick of wins at Miami, having won there previously in 2022 and 2023. After his win in China, he extended his advantage over his teammate Sergio Perez in the Driver's Championship to 25 points, having scored 110 points to Perez's 85 after the five races and a Sprint in the 2024 season.
