F1 fans were left reeling after Aston Martin F1 driver Lance Stroll defended his performances by claiming that he and Fernando Alonso were level in qualifying. The Canadian driver has been under pressure since the beginning of the season given the lack of consistency in his performances and results thus far.
Heading into his home race in Montreal this weekend, Stroll clarified that he was very much focused within the team and has been making gains on his two-time world champion teammate as reflected in their qualifying results.
Speaking with TSN, Lance Stroll mentioned that the points tally could be deceiving while comparing his season against Fernando Alonso and said:
“He’s a two-time World Champion and people see him as a top driver in Formula 1 – and it’s 4-4 in quali. The points are a little bit deceiving because sometimes one guy can have an engine failure. That sometimes differentiates the points at the end of the season."
“I look at my last few weekends, and I think they’ve been strong. When I look at the pace right now, and speed, like I said, 4-4 in quali. People say he’s super good and I beat him the last few weekends," Stroll added.
F1 fans took to X to give their reactions to Lance Stroll's comments, saying:
"Oh stroll f***ed up," said a fan.
"Lance has to tell himself a story, hasn’t he?" claimed another fan.
"Lance needs to go. He has no genuine care about actual motorsports," wrote another.

Lance Stroll gives his earliest memory of his home race in Montreal
Lance Stroll stated that Montreal is 'home' for him as he resides 20 minutes from the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and used to watch the Canadian GP in his young days in the early 2000s.
Speaking in the pre-race press conference, the Aston Martin driver said:
"Well, it's home. I grew up here, so, you know, 20 minutes away from the track, so it's always special coming back. When I was just a little guy, I remember the Schumacher days, the early 2000s, coming to watch the race here was always a very exciting weekend."
Lance Stroll also praised the track layout and called it 'fun' and spoke about the thrill of going close to the walls, adding:
"It's a fun track. It's got, like, some big kerbs and technical aspects of it. Not much margin on exits with the walls being close. So I've always enjoyed the challenge here."
The Canadian has only been able to score 11 points in the eight races and two Sprints thus far but would hope to add to his tally in his home race where he has finished in the points on four occasions in five appearances.
