Despite facing a Q2 exit, Checo managed to finish the race in the top 5. The Mexican driver started the race from P11 and improved to finish in P5.Verstappen claimed the race win, ahead of the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who started the race from the pole position. Reports suggest that the Mexican driver can face the Red Bull axe if he fails to meet the contract criteria before F1 heads for the summer break.Checo signed a two-year contract extension with Red Bull recently, but the clauses in the contract do not provide him any immunity if he fails to meet the criteria.Going by reports, one clause says that Checo must not finish the mid-season more than 100 points behind Max Verstappen. On top of that, he should also remain in P5 in the drivers' standings. However, Perez's recent lackluster performances have put him in the danger zone. He is currently 137 points behind Verstappen, and six points behind Oscar Piastri, the driver in P5.Speaking about Perez's situation, team principal Christian Horner labeled it as 'unsustainable.'"[ Perez] knows it’s unsustainable to not be scoring points – we have to be scoring points in that car, and he knows that," Horner said. "He knows his role and his target, so nobody is more eager than Checo to find his form again.""It’s something we’re acutely aware of, that to win the constructors’ championship you need both cars scoring," Horner added on Red Bull's constructors' championship target.Sergio Perez is currently in the P6 of the drivers' championship with 118 points. George Russell [P7] with 111 points and Lewis Hamilton [P8] with 110 points are breathing down his neck.
