Sector 1:
The first sector of the Singapore circuit starts with a short start/finish straight. The first few corners are a sequence of lefts and rights which puts a tremendous load on the tyre structure. This is followed up by the tight right hander (turn 5) which leads to the long straight.
The first sector has many good overtaking regions, the best being at the entrance of turn 7 when cars break from more than 250 kmph. To make the overtaking stick, a driver has to get a good run on the car ahead from the exit of turn 5 and slipstream the car ahead through the fast turn 6 and then make a overtaking move in the braking zone for turn 7.
The entrance of turn 7 marks the end of sector 1.
Sector 2:
Sector 2 starts from the exit of turn 7 and the famous Singapore sling (turn 10) is a part of this sector.
The Singapore sling has three nasty kerbs which are known to throw the cars into the wall. During the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, Kimi Raikonen took too much kerb through the Singapore sling and crashed into the wall surrounding turn 10. So, it is one of the most challenging corners on the circuit.
The end of sector 2 is marked by turn 14. Turn 14 is also one of the prime overtaking spots on the circuit.
Sector 3:
Sector 3 starts from turn 14 and it comprises of many slow corners with just one fast corner. As there are many slow corners, traction out of the slow corners is very important and a car with good traction can get a really quick sector 3.
The final corner of the circuit (turn 22) is the fastest corner of the circuit and the drivers have to keep of the kerbs at the entrance of turn 22 as they can throw the cars into the wall surrounding turn 22.
The DRS zone starts from the exit of turn 22 and runs uptil turn 1.
