The Premier League began its journey in 1992 and revolutionised football by showing the world how much money broadcasting football can bring.

Today the league holds the status as the best football league in the world. Recently, even though the top clubs in England have not played well in the UEFA Champions league, as compared to the top clubs in Spain, the Premier League is still considered to be the toughest league overall.

#10 Only player to play 2 games consecutively against the same team in a season

In the 2016/17 Premier League season, wide forward Yannick Bolasie became the first player to play 2 games consecutively against the same opponent, with his appearances coming against West Brom.

On the first matchday of the 2016/17 season, Bolasie came on as a second half substitute, as Crystal Palace slumped to a 1-0 defeat against the baggies.

Subsequently, Bolasie made his switch to Everton, only to make his debut seven days later against the same opponent as a second half substitute. This time though Bolasie had the last laugh as he ended up on the winning side.

#9 Only one team has ever finished in the top 3 with a negative goal difference

In the inaugural season of the Premier League, when the likes of Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers were the closest challengers to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United for the title, a certain Norwich city side under Mike Walker's stewardship managed to finish third in the league.

Having been pre-season favourites for relegation, the Canaries led the league for most of the season, before stuttering in the final weeks to finish third in the table, behind Manchester United and Aston Villa.

On their way to a third placed finish, the Canaries managed to score 61 goals, but allowed in 65 goals, meaning they had a goal difference of -4, thus making Norwich the only team ever to finish top 3 with a negative goal difference.

#8 Most consecutive games without a win

To conclude that Derby County from the 2007/08 season, were the worst side ever to grace the Premier League, would be an understatement, such was their performance.

Finishing with just 11 (a record low) points across the whole season, the Rams went on a 32-game winless run in the Premier League (another record). After winning 1-0 on matchday 6 against Newcastle United, the Rams did not register a single victory in the entire season picking up just 7 points thereafter.

Derby also holds the record for the fewest home wins (1), most goals conceded (89) and fewest scored (20) in a season.

#7 Playing for two relegated sides in the same season

George Boyd started the 2014/15 season with Hull City, before shifting to the Burnley on deadline day. The winger’s first season at Burnley did not go according to plan, as the Clarets were relegated at the end of the season.

Joining him in the second division were his previous club, Hull City as they could not manage to save themselves from going straight back to the Championship.

This list includes Steve Kabba (Sheffield United and Watford during the 2006/07 season), David Nugent (Burnley and Portsmouth in the 2009/10 season) and Mark Robins (Norwich and Leicester during the 1994/95 campaign) as the three other players to have been relegated twice in the same season.

#6 The tale of Davids and James

In the 2010/11 season, the most commom names to appear for Premier League clubs were David and James. There were 14 different players having David in their name, while James wasn't far behind on 11.

However, it was the first time since the inception of the Premier League that former English shotstopper, David James did not appear.

Relegated at the end of the previous season with Portsmouth, the then 39-year old keeper decided to join Championship side Bristol City at the start of the 2010/11 season.

#5 Most goals in a month

The record for most goals (10) in a calendar month is held by former Liverpool hitman Luis Suarez .

During 2013/14 season, Luis Suarez then of Liverpool was a big factor in the near-title assault, as the Merseyside club finished second, and the striker's 31 goals that season made him the golden boot winner.

During that season, the Uruguayan broke the record for the most goals in a calender month, as he smashed 10 goals in the month of December. Suarez started the month by scoring 4 against his favourite bunny, Norwich City followed by three consecutive braces against West Ham, Tottenham and Cardiff.

#4 Longest duration between two Premier League appearances

Delaney made his first appearance in Premier League in 2001 but had to wait 11 years for his next

Veteran Crystal Palace defender, Damien Delaney holds the record for the longest duration between two Premier League appearances - a mere 11 years.

During the 2001/02 season, Delaney then of Leicester City, managed to make a handful of appearances as the Foxes finished rock bottom in the league.

That was to be the last time Delaney would play in the England’s top division for quite a while. In the Meantime, he managed to carve out a reputation for himself as a reliable defender in the Championship.

Finally, Delaney got his big break in 2013 when newly promoted Crystal Palace came calling for his signature. It was a big compliment to his hard work, as he played 37 times in the following Premier League, even scoring in the famous 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

#3 The manager who has been relegated the most

When a team is struggling to survive in the Premier League and in need of a manager to help them through, Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis come first to mind. The two managers have saved many teams from going back to the Championship.

On the other end of the spectrum is English manager Dave Bassett, who with 3 relegations to his name, is the king in terms of sending teams to the Championship.

Bassett’s first relegation came in the 1993/94 season with Sheffield United, followed by a second relegation in 1996/97 with Nottingham Forest where Stuart Pearce even acted as a temporary player manager.

Bassett’s third and final relegation came in the 2001/02 when Leicester City finished bottom of the pile ending their six year stay in the Premier League.

#2 Hat-trick of Headers

There have only been two men who have managed to score hat-tricks entirely of their heads; Everton legend Duncan Ferguson and current Baggies striker Salomon Rondon.

Once Duncan Ferguson headbutted a man and ended up in jail for 3 months. But his head was also a great weapon as he frequently rose above defenders to nod Everton ahead. Once, Ferguson even managed to score a hat-trick of headed goals as he single handedly took Everton to a 3-2 victory over Bolton in 1997.

More recently, Salomon Rondon of West Brom replicated the feat, as he headed in a hat-trick of headers in just 13 minutes, in a convincing 3-1 victory over the hapless Swansea City, in the 2016/17 season.

#1 Scoring at the both ends and assisting all in the same game

Only three players in Premier League history have managed to put their names on this illustrious list.

Heading the list is current Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney. During the 2012/13 season, in a game between Manchester United and Stoke City, Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for the Potters, as he headed into his own net. Rooney redeemed himself with a brace at the right end and later also assisted Danny Welbeck.

A month later, Welshman Gareth Bale joined Rooney on the list, as he assisted Aaron Lennon before scoring a beautiful 25-yard free kick himself against Liverpool. With Liverpool piling on the pressure, the former Spurs player then headed the ball into his own net from a corner.

However, it was an ex-Bolton star Kevin Davies who appeared first on this list. During the 2008/09 season, in a match against Aston Villa, Davies headed the ball into the net, at both the correct, as well as wrong end. He also setup Johan Elamander’s opener in a clash which they ultimately lost 4-2.
