Sergio Aguero scored five goals for Manchester City in a 2015-16 Premier League game against Aston Villa. In the process, the Argentina striker became only the fifth player in the history of the competition to score five in a game.

The others to do so are Dimitar Berbatov (for Manchester United against Blackburn in 2010-11), Jermain Defoe (for Tottenham Hotspur vs Wigan Athletic in 2009-10), Alan Shearer (for Newcastle United against Sheffield United in 1999-2000) and Andy Cole (for Manchester United against Ipswich Town in 1994-95).

However, the Argentine's hat-trick haul is the most by any player for a single club.

In 2011-12, both Manchester United and Manchester City ended with the same tally of points (89).

However, the title went to the blue half of Manchester owing to City's superior goal difference (+64) compared to United (+56). That remains the only occasion during 27 Premier League editions that the title was decided on goal difference.
