It has to be said that it is a good sign that at the start of the 2013/14 edition of the I-League that after the first three rounds with not all matches played the attendances have been higher than in recent seasons.
In recent seasons I-League attendances have dropped sharply with some clubs playing infront of a handful of fans.
“It’s great to see the crowd cheering from the stands. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the I-League clubs for the manner they have promoted their matches, the results of which are visible,” I-League CEO Sunando Dhar said.
Stats from the first three rounds reveal that Bengaluru FC’s home games at the Bangalore Football Stadium were sold out for the first three rounds, while Shillong Lajong’s second-round home-match against Pune FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong drew an attendance of 21,500 and in Goa the Duler ground has been close to its capacity for matches of the different Goan teams though its capacity is very low.
“It’s heartening to see that clubs are witnessing full houses in Bangalore, Shillong and Goa. This is a very positive sign. Let’s not forget the big two from Kolkata are yet to play in Kolkata,” Sunando Dhar added.
