Asia (AFC)
After four rounds of qualification, there are 10 teams remaining, divided into 2 groups. The top two from each group go through to the World Cup directly. The third-placed teams from both groups face each other in a knockout tie. The winner of that tie faces the fifth-placed team in the South American qualifiers for a spot in the World Cup.
