2022 Qatar World Cup labourers riot after inhuman treatment

Construction labourers working at the Sheraton hotel renovation project site were injured along with a few security officials after a fight broke out between the two groups.

According to a report published b reported Doha News, preventing the workers from taking a break around noon was one of the major causes behind the brawl. Speaking to the reporters after the incident, the workers revealed that they were not only allowed to leave the premises for lunch breaks, they were also forbidden from taking a break for drinking water, or use the bathroom.

They further added that they were struck with steel rods and stones by the guards, a claim that the guards have denied. The workers were also accused of damaging windows of a portable cabin, a scaffolding and some furniture at the spot.

The riot was settled in by the fire engines and ambulances who had rushed to the site after being informed about the incident, and the victims were taken to the Hamad General Hospital.

Qatar had been all over the news for their inhuman-like treatment with their employees, with the Indian Embassy in Dona having already confirmed the death of almost 1000 Indian migrant workers who have been working for the 2022 World Cup.
