In the current Barcelona first team, there is only one specialist right-back in Portuguese international Nelson Semedo.

This had led multiple coaches to play the ubiquitous Sergi Roberto at right-back, as opposed to his more preferred position in central midfield.

While the 27-year-old Spanish international might have performed decently over the last few years on the right side of defense, he is not a natural defender and his shortcomings have been exposed on occasion in the past.

The club has identified getting a specialist right-back as a priority, and rather than looking to spend money in the transfer market, they should look inwards for the solution to their woes.

Moussa Wague is a 20-year-old right-back who made a name for himself at the Aspire academy in Qatar before transferring to Belgian side FC Eupen.

His performances in Belgium caught the eye, and he was signed by Barcelona in the summer of 2018, with Ernesto Valverde naming him as one of the young players around whom he plans to build the team.

Wague has been promoted to the first team ahead of next season and would likely provide competition for Nelson Semedo at right-back, and seeing as he is already an established international with Senegal (becoming the youngest African goalscorer in World Cup history), the step up in quality might not be too far off for him.
