Cucurella could be Jordi Alba's long-term replacement

With Jordi Alba rapidly approaching the nadir of his career, it is pertinent that Barcelona start to look at alternatives for the 30-year-old.

The Spanish international was at fault for most goals conceded by Barcelona last season, with his shocking loss of concentration on multiple occasions against Liverpool in the Champions League being one of the reasons why the Catalans were eliminated.

Reports have emerged that the Blaugrana are interested in signing Liverpool outcast Alberto Moreno and this is shocking to say the least, especially seeing as they have a certain Marc Cucurella on their books.

The 20-year-old joined Barcelona's youth academy from Espanyol in 2012 and went on to make 54 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona B while also representing the Spanish youth sides at all levels from Under 16 to Under 20, as well as Catalunya on one occasion.

He was sent on loan to LaLiga side SD Eibar at the start of the 2018/2019 season and impressed significantly enough at the Ipuria Municipal stadium for Barcelona to bring him back to the club.

There are indications that Cucurella would be integrated into the first team in the upcoming season, and he would provide competition for Jordi Alba who has largely been untroubled for his starting shirt since his return to the Camp Nou in 2012.
