One of the most influential personalities in world football, Franz Beckenbauer is one of the greatest German footballers of all-time. He has won the European Footballer of the Year twice in his illustrious and trophy-laden career.

Primarily a defender, Beckenbauer has played 103 times for West Germany and scored 14 goals. Beckenbauer won the World Cup title as a player for West Germany in 1974. As a manager, he led them to the finals of the 1986 World Cup but lost to Diego Maradona’s Argentina.

Four years later, he won the World Cup title for West Germany and became only the second person to accomplish the stunning feat of winning FIFA World Cup title as a player and manager. He was hugely successful in his entire footballing career both as a player and manager.
