3 Midfielders to watch out for this season

Excitement, enthusiasm, anxiety – Mix all these feelings and voila! we have a new season upon us. It’s not just the fans who experience this situation. The same can be said about the players. Whether it’s a new signing or a player returning after a long injury layoff, these men would want to prove their worth and become world beaters.

Let’s look at three midfielders who can make the next season theirs.

1.Tom Cleverley (Manchester United)

Touted as the natural successor to the Ginger Prince and straight from the united academy,Tom Cleverley was sir Alex’s answer to Wesley Sneijder. He caught the attention when he completely turned the game around after coming on in the second half of the Community Shield against city. Certainly, Wesley Sneijder wasn’t needed anymore. He carried that form into the Premier League as well.

His one-touch passes, quick movement and tremendous understanding with other attackers was so immense that it even made Anderson look a world class midfielder. But a woeful tackle from Kevin Davies meant Cleverley could not even cross ten appearances for the season.

However, in the new season, Tom will want his luck to change as he will look to stamp down a place in the starting eleven. It’ll not be an easy task with added competition in the form of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell.

But the talent that he is, we can be sure that he’ll light up the premier league the way he did in the initial stages of the previous season.

2. Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

England’s answer to Andrea Pirlo. There’s only one small problem though – the guy hasn’t played a single minute of competitive football for almost a year.

One of the most talented midfielders of the present generation, Wilshere has often been beset by injuries. His ability needs no description and his performance against Barca in both the legs of the Champions League quarter finals was the high points of his short career.

Already into rehab and looking forward to the next season, Wilshere may well be handed the captain’s armband with van Persie’s imminent exit.

That would be all the more motivation for Jack as he would look to make Arsenal a serious title contender along with making a name for himself in the Premier League elite.

3. Gylfi Sigurdsson (Tottenham Hotspur)

A year ago, Gylfi Sigurdsson was plying his trade in the Bundesliga with the relatively unknown Hoffenheim but by January 2012, Brendan Rodgers came knocking and took him to Swansea.

His play was tailor made for Swansea’s attacking style as a result of which he scored 7 goals and set up quite a few in the 15 odd games he has played.

Another interesting stat is that he was the player of the season for 2 consecutive seasons for both Reading and Hoffenheim. Even for small clubs, that is quite an achievement.

Come 2012/13 , a bigger challenge awaits him. After becoming Andre Vilas-Boas’ first signing for Tottenham, a lot will be expected of the Icelandic international who also owns a fishing company in Iceland. And in AVB, he’ll have the perfect manager for the Portugese is known for his tactics which favors attack rather than defence. A set piece expert, expect Gylfi to rise up to the challenge and be counted.

Young, exciting, fearless and technically brilliant – these three midfielders could become the spine of their respective clubs for the future and this may well be the year when their dominance begins.
