This season has been a roller coaster ride for Manchester United and their fans. They suffered their worst start to a season in 26 years under the management of Jose Mourinho. When Mourinho was relieved of his duties back in December, United found themselves 19 points off leaders Liverpool and 11 points off the final Champions League spot.

The Red Devils have been resurgent under their caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, winning 11 of their last 13 games in all competition and are still unbeaten in the Premier League. They now find themselves inside the top 4, a point clear of 5th placed Arsenal. But they still look miles away from competing for the title and are 11 points adrift of the summit of the Premier League table.

A team with such pedigree for winning titles should never be satisfied with Champions League qualification, especially when two of their arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are going head-to-head for the Premier League title. Here are 3 Premier league players they should look to buy in the summer to compete for the title next season.

1.Willy Boly

United have managed to keep just 6 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, conceding 35 goals. They will seek reinforcements at the back and will be looking for a centre-half in the summer. Although they are linked with big money moves for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Inter's Milan Skriniar, they could go for a cheaper and more attainable option in Willy Boly.

The 28-year old center-back has been a key member for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season, playing 25 out of 27 games in the Premier League and scoring 3 times. He looks composed on the ball and can play out from the back. He attempted 1181 passes in the Premier League, with a pass completion rate of 81%. He has also won 67% of his aerial duels, which is better than Koulibaly's 47% and Skriniar's 50%. United should definitely keep an eye on the French centre-back in the summer.

2. Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Right-back is one position where United severely lack quality. Ashley Young has played in that position for most of the season, but he's not a natural full-back. The 33-year old is decent going forward, but he lacks the defensive qualities of a modern-day full-back. Diogo Dalot is another option for United in that position, but he's still 19 and looks one for the future.

United will be seeking a replacement for Young, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be the perfect option. The 21-year old has been fantastic for Crystal Palace this season. He has won 69% of his tackles and 68% of his duels. With his blistering pace, he's reliable in one-on-one situations against wingers. With his engine, he can run up and down the field throughout the game.

3.Wilfred Ndidi

Manchester United do not have a like-to-like replacement for Nemanja Matic, who plays as a defensive midfielder. United will be in the market next summer to solve this problem and should definitely look at Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi.

The 22-year old Nigerian international is having a great season for Leicester. He has scored twice this season in the Premier League. He averages 71 touches per game and has completed 77% of his 1359 attempted passes. He loves to drive through the midfield and is very effective against high pressing oppositions.
