#1 Liverpool 3-1 Olympiakos (2004-05)

What a night.
What a night.

This is the exact and identical scenario that Liverpool is in right now. Having lost 1-0 to Olympiakos, the Reds needed to win 1-0 or by two clear goals in order to advance from their group. While Napoli will pose a much bigger challenge than the Greek outfit, the Anfield crowd will be up for it from the start.

There has been a bunch of heroic performances at Anfield in Europe, but the most heroic of them all came on that night in December 2004. Steven Gerrard and co. were on the brink of elimination to the UEFA Cup, just like Jurgen Klopp's side now. But the grit, determination and belief of the players are what dug them out of this massive hole.

Olympiakos went into half-time with a 1-0 lead, meaning Liverpool had to score at least 3 goals if they were to reach the Round of 16. What followed was probably one of the most magical 45 minutes of European football that Anfield has ever seen.

Goals from young strikers Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor gave the Reds some hope heading towards the end of the game. Then, up stepped a certain Steven Gerrard to volley home an absolute screamer to give Liverpool a 3-1 lead and earn them qualification to the next round of their extraordinary journey in the 2004-05 Champions League.

The Reds of today will look at this game and know that they are not only in with a shout, but the ball is in their court. Anfield will need to be in full voice on Tuesday, as they look to sneak out of the Group of Death by stunning Napoli. It has happened before and it could happen again. We could be in for another very special European night at Anfield.
