3 reasons why Mikel Arteta is the right man for Arsenal
Arsenal sacked Unai Emery after an eighteen month stint with the Londoners. The Gunners announced that they had appointed former player Freddie Ljungberg as interim head coach of the first team.
Arsenal were without a win in their last seven games and their defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League was the final nail in the coffin for the Spaniard. One man heavily linked with the job now is their former player Mikel Arteta.
The former Arsenal captain has emerged as one of the leading contenders among the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo and Massimiliano Allegri. Arteta was one of the leading choices to replace Arsene Wenger as well but the board decided to go ahead with Emery instead.
Here we take a look at three reasons why Mikel Arteta is the correct man for Arsenal.
#3 Mikel Arteta knows the club's philosophy inside out
Mikel Arteta spent five seasons in the Premier League with the Gunners and made 149 appearances in all competitions for the Londoners. During his time in London, the now 37-year-old won the FA Cup and Community Shield twice.
The Spaniard was one of the fan favourites and owing to his stature in the dressing room and leadership qualities, he was named the captain before the commencement of 2014-15 season.
Arteta recognises the values of the club having spent five seasons with the Gunners and therefore would be the right man to inculcate those values in the current set of players. He knows the philosophy, playing style, staff and the fans, and is fully aware of what is expected from the Gunners.
#2 Learned from the best
Arteta might not possess managerial experience to show but he has learned a lot at Manchester City. The Spaniard is Pep Guardiola's assistant manager and is well versed with how things work at the managerial level of a prestigious club.
Having worked alongside Guardiola, he has learned from the best in business and is raring to go. In his time at Manchester City, Arteta has learnt how to build a supreme force from scratch, how to nurture the youth and how to inculcate your playing style into the team. The Spaniard looks all set to take on a new challenge from here on.
#1 A refreshing change for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta could be the exact refreshing change that the Arsenal squad is in dire need of. We have seen managers with negligible or no experience do wonders for their current employers and Arteta could be on the same track.
Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are perfect examples who are doing a brilliant job for Chelsea and Rangers, respectively. Another such example is of Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman was given the highly desired job of managing Real Madrid after Rafael Benitez was given the sack and since then, Los Blancos have written a new glorious chapter in their history books.
Arteta having played for Arsenal, has inherited the values of the club and completely comprehends what is expected of him and a club as big as Arsenal. Therefore, Mikel Arteta is the right man to takeover from here.
