5 Tottenham Hotspur players who need to leave to further their career

Watford v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Danny Rose

With the World Cup just round the corner (as well as the January Transfer Window), every player will be wanting to impress in hope of a place in their International squad come next June. However, there are always players within a squad that are left frustrated at the amount of game time they receive from their manager.

This piece will focus on five Tottenham players who should seek a move away as soon as they can in order to benefit their career.

#5 Danny Rose

There is no doubt that Danny Rose is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, but so far this season, Pochettino has been in-favour of Ben Davies. Rose has been ever-present in the Spurs squad for some time now, but has recently been over looked by the manager.

With a high chance of making the World Cup next summer, first-team football is an absolute certainty for Rose. The English full-back has only made two appearances in the Premier League this season, which is no where enough for the 27-year-old.

If Rose does seek a move away from Spurs, there will no doubt be a long queue of clubs interested; top clubs as well. He may well be tempted to search for first-team football come January.

#4 Michel Vorm

Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace - Premier League
Michel Vorm

Despite being a 34-year-old, Vorm is still a capable goalkeeper and therefore still has a couple of years of first-team football left. Unfortunately for him, that will not happen whilst at Spurs.

With Hugo Lloris undoubtedly their no.1, Michel Vorm cannot even be classed as their no.2 anymore. When Lloris was unable to play against Crystal Palace, instead of turning to Vorm, Pochettino opted for fellow countryman, Paulo Gazzaniga; who put in Man of the Match performance.

Without a doubt, Vorm's days are numbered, and he certainly will not want to spend his last years on the bench. The Dutch shot-stopper may have to take a step down in order to find first-team football, but that should be his priority.

#3 Fernando Llorente

Real Madrid v Tottenham Hotspur - UEFA Champions League
Fernando Llorente

Despite having only joined Spurs in the summer, the Spanish forward is already becoming an outcast at Tottenham. Overshadowed by Harry Kane, Llorente has only managed nine appearances this term.

Now, nine appearances doesn't sound bad initially, until you realise he's come off the bench every time; he's yet to start a Premier League game so far this campaign. In those nine substituted appearances, he has failed to register a single goal or assist; probably due to a lack of confidence.

If Llorente remains at Spurs for the rest of the season, he will reach nowhere near the 15 goals he bagged last campaign with Swansea, giving him a slim chance for World Cup selection. With the likes of, Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa to compete with, Llorente is in desperate need of game time.

At 32-years-old, it is clear that Russia 2018 would be his last World Cup campaign; if he can make it of course. But his chances are ever decreasing whilst he's sat on the bench at Wembley. Even if it is a loan deal for the rest of the season, a move in January should be in his best interests.

#2 Georges-Kévin Nkoudou

Tottenham Hotspur v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League
Georges-Kévin Nkoudou

Similar to Llorente, Nkoudou hasn't been a Spurs player for all that long; he signed for the club in August 2016. During that period, he has only managed nine Premier League appearances, his also all off the bench. He has failed to make an impact in any of those appearances, with no a single goal or assist registered.

At just 22-years-old, the French winger still has most of his career left, however, he is still yet to make an appearance for the French senior team. Of course he still has plenty of time to do that, but every player is hungry to represent their national team.

Granted, even if he does start playing regularly for Tottenham, making it into the current French squad would be a near-impossibility for the winger.

If Nkoudou wants to become recognised by Didier Deschamps, regular football is a must. Unfortunately, regular football at Spurs doesn't look likely anytime soon for Nkoudou.

#1 Erik Lamela

Tottenham Hotspur FC v AS Monaco FC - UEFA Europa League
Erik Lamela

The Argentine midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane in August 2013 for hefty fee of around £25 million; a fee that arguably, has not been justified. Lamela has made 86 Premier League appearances for Spurs, but only 10 since the beginning of the 2016-17 season.

His Spurs career has been setback by injuries, and therefore he hasn't been able to reach his full potential in the Premier League. He recently returned from his most recent injury, and came off the bench against Leicester on Wednesday in which he registered an assist.

The attacking midfielder has showcased his talent previously, but after so many injuries, the questions of his current ability are being asked; and with the current players Spurs have, Lamela will struggle to gain a place in the Spurs starting XI.

If it proves too hard for Lamela to regain regular football at Spurs once again, he may look for a move come January; whether it be a loan or permanent. At only 25-years-old, his career is far from over, and to kick-start his career once more, a January transfer may be tempting for the Argentine.
