Leading into January, all the talk surrounding Eddie Nketiah was where he would end up in the January window. His loan spell at Leeds United offered several highs but also many lows.

In total, Nketiah made 17 league appearances for Leeds, however, only two of them were starts. In that time the 20-year-old scored three goals. Arsenal decided to cut short the youngster’s loan despite Marco Bielsa expressing his concerns about that decision.

Mikel Arteta then announced that they would take a few days to decide on Nketiah’s short-term career, many assumed that implied deciding the next destination for the striker with Bristol City firmly in the mix.

In the end, Arteta shockingly decided to keep the youngster, with him willing to give the 20-year-old first-team opportunities. That has already paid a dividend with him scoring a deciding goal in Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth round win over Bournemouth.

Time will tell whether this was the correct decision or not, but it’s quite clear that Arteta trusts Nketiah and will give him the minutes to repay that faith.
