3 things to look forward to during the last week of the Premier League

Chelsea v Liverpool - Premier League
Who will qualify?

Ah, that cliché dialogue we hear as the curtain comes down on another Premier League season- what a brilliant season it has been!

Indeed. No one expected Manchester City to dominate proceedings in this fashion. No one anticipated Chelsea's fall from grace. No one predicted that the promoted teams will all do so well under pressure and fight on to avoid relegation.

And of course, the supreme rise of Mohammed Salah- a player who was once deemed not good enough for the big stage and who has taken Liverpool to another level almost single-handedly.

Managerial changes at Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham and Southampton helped them turn the season around while Carlos Carvalhal, Paul Lambert and Darren Moore fell short of retaining Premier League status next season despite their good work.

All 20 teams will be in action at the same time this Sunday across as the season culminates and despite things pretty much wrapped up, we look at 3 things to look forward to in the Premier League this Sunday:

#3 City to reach the 100-point tally?

Norwich City v Manchester City - The Emirates FA Cup Third Round
Can they?

It really has been one of those freak seasons for City as they have given absolutely no chance to any of their adversaries- not one. And given their total domination, there are enough reasons to suspect if they can repeat the feat next season as well.

They have beaten the long-standing record of most points won in a season following their victory over Brighton midweek. The previous record was set by Chelsea in Mourinho's first season at the club in 2005 and stood at 95 points.

City's current tally of 97 points was aided by a record-breaking 31 wins this season and they are one victory away from reaching the 100-point mark, which would be quite an astonishing achievement given that the maximum possible points in a season is 114.

They travel to Southampton in a bid to achieve the same.

#2 Michael Carrick's final bow

Yeovil Town v Manchester United - The Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round
One last hurrah!

Over 700 games and a career spanning nearly two decades, the ever-reliable Michael Carrick is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season and join Jose Mourinho's management team.

Criminally underrated and rarely given the recognition he deserves, Carrick is United's longest serving player and above all a true gentleman of the game who personifies football in the simplest of all manners.

Mourinho confirmed before their match against West Ham midweek that Carrick will start the game against Watford and will be substituted before the end of the match.

And on Sunday, when he wears that captain's armband and leads the team out of that Stretford End tunnel one last time, it will be a poignant occasion for the Old Trafford faithful who will give a fitting send-off to one of the game's best ever servants.

#1 The final Champions League spot

Liverpool v Chelsea - Premier League
Who goes through?

There was a stage not so long ago, when Chelsea were 10 points behind Tottenham. However, 4 straight victories including one against Liverpool, coupled with Spurs dropping points gave them a ray of hope for Champions League qualification next season.

However, they could only manage a draw against Huddersfield midweek and Liverpool are now well and truly in the driving seat to clinch the place.

The final day will see Liverpool play host to Brighton while Chelsea will travel to Newcastle- a place that they are not entirely fond of.

Also, Salah will have his eyes firmly set on the back of the net and if he manages to score tomorrow, he will set a new record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

Given their huge goal difference, Liverpool need only a point from their match to finish in the top 4 while Chelsea not only need to win their game at St. James' park but also hope that Brighton defeat Liverpool.

Tough odds. But it's football, isn't it? We have seen maths and probability go out of the equation so often.
