A former favourite at Anfield, Luis Garcia was among the original players bought back by Barcelona. Having come through the youth setup, Garcia spent five years playing for the Barcelona B side before spending a further three years on loan at Valladolid, Toledo, Tenerife, and Valladolid again.

He eventually secured a permanent transfer away from the Nou Camp in 2002 when Atletico Madrid signed the attacking midfielder for €3.6 million. However, after just one season at Los Colchoneros, Barcelona activated a buy-back clause, paying only €1.4 million more than what they sold him for the summer previous.

Garcia went on to make 25 appearances for Barca in the 2003/04 season before Liverpool came knocking with an offer worth around €8 million for the Spaniard.

Having previously worked with the Liverpool manager at the time, Rafa Benitez, at Tenerife Garcia was keen to move to Anfield. He would go on to spend three seasons with the Merseyside club before returning to Atletico Madrid in 2007.
