Malcom caused a lot of controversy when he arrived Barcelona last year from Bordeaux for a sum of £36.5 million despite having agreed to terms with Italian side AS Roma with the club announcing his signing on Twitter and thousands of fans awaiting his arrival at the Rome International airport.

However, beyond his acrimonious arrival, the 22-year-old did not do too much of note in the Barcelona shirt, as he struggled to make an impact on the team and was restricted to substitute roles and appearances in cup competitions and dead rubber matches.

In total, Malcom made just 15 appearances (mostly off the bench) in LaLiga, scoring only one goal and with no shortage of suitors, Barcelona would be eager to sell him off to cough up funds for their other transfer targets. With sparse playing time last season, the Brazilian winger also missed out on an opportunity to represent his National Team in the ongoing Copa America.
