The transfer window ended on the 5th of October and it'd be fair to say that this iteration was a bit unlike the rest. Clubs will have to settle down now with their new acquisitions after a couple of months rich with speculation. However, Premier League sides still have the option of improving their sides by going into the free-agent market.
The free-agent market might not be as plush right now as some of the high-profile free agents would have already been signed up by clubs. Manchester United signed Edinson Cavani on a free on deadline day. However, there are a few very recognizable names still available to be signed up.
Let's take a look at five amazing free agents that Premier League sides can still sign to improve their squad.
#5 Nathaniel Clyne
Nathaniel Clyne's contract with reigning Premier League champions Liverpool ran its course this summer and he is currently a free agent. The 29-year-old right-back, who started his career with Crystal Palace, is currently training with the Eagles and is reportedly close to moving to Selhurst Park.
It makes a lot of sense for Crystal Palace to sign their youth academy product again as they are currently short-staffed at right-back. Nathan Ferguson is nursing an injury while Martin Kelly is working on regaining fitness.
Clyne has already had an outing with Crystal Palace on a trial basis and they are expected to sign him up soon. Clyne struggled for fitness towards the end of his Liverpool tenure and did not garner enough minutes to get either the Champions League or the Premier League winners' medal.
#4 Shinji Kagawa
Former Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa is now a free agent after terminating his contract with Real Zaragoza. Real Zaragoza announced the termination via a statement that read,
"Real Zaragoza has ended the contractual relationship it had with footballer Shinji Kagawa.
"The club wishes to express thanks for the professionalism shown by the player during the time that he has worn the Zaragoza shirt, while wishing him future professional success."
However, Kagawa is not pleased with the way his contract was ended and has already voiced his displeasure at the same. He reportedly wants to kick on in Spain with second-division side Sabadell interested.
Kagawa is still only 31-years-old and has the experience of playing in the English and German top-flight in his prime years. He could prove to be a good alternative option to one of the Premier League minnows who could benefit from his wealth of experience.
#3 Alexandre Pato and Daniel Sturridge
Alexandre Pato terminated his contract with Sao Paulo in August and is currently a free-agent looking for a fresh challenge elsewhere. Internacional are reportedly weighing up a move for the 31-year-old striker with the Brazilian likely to stay put at his home country.
Pato never really delivered on the promise from his years as a youngster and his longest stint came at AC Milan where he played from 2007-2013. AC Milan are a bit short on options at the front with a 39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the frontline.
As such, the Rossoneri might just be tempted to make a swoop for him. But he is more likely to go to Internacional which is also his boyhood club. Crystal Palace might also want to take a look at this seeing as how they don't have a lot of goalscorers in their team.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is also a free-agent but he has been so since March. His awful spell at Trabzonspor in Turkey came to a close when Sturridge terminated his contract earlier this year.
The only route back to the Premier League for Sturridge could be his boyhood club Aston Villa but even there, he will have to do with a bit-part role.
#2 Danny Welbeck
Danny Welbeck has now terminated his contract with Watford by mutual consent after the Hornets were relegated to the Championship. Welbeck's stay at Watford was short and he is now looking to find a new club which would be his third in a little more than a year.
Watford could not afford to keep paying Welbeck's £100,000 a week wages. It would also be best for Welbeck to sound out the possibility of staying in the top-flight with Crystal Palace being touted as a potential destination.
The Eagles don't have many goalscorers on their payroll and have found themselves in trouble time and again when Wilfried Zaha suffers a dip in form. Otherwise, he might have to content with trying to build his reputation again from the Championship.
#1 Jack Wilshere
It's nearly unimaginable now that Jack Wilshere was once viewed as the future of English football. An injury laden career has now come to yet another standstill after West Ham chose to terminate the 28-year-old's contract as they weren't pleased with the time he spends sidelined.
Maybe Jack Wilshere should move abroad because the Premier League is too intense a league for an injury prone player such as him. But one of the Premier League minnows could yet sign him up. Wilshere packs quality and on odd days, he can run a game from midfield.
Also at 28-years-old, he has a few years left in his tank provided he does not keep getting injured. He could be a good back up option in midfield but given his injury record, we'll have to wait and see which club would be willing to run that risk.
