5 Bargain buys for Manchester United in January

Manchester United v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League
Pointing toward possibilities.

Manchester United are 13 points behind Manchester City after they played out a draw against Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Leicester City scored an equalizer just a few seconds before the stoppage and this has left Manchester United fans furious about Jose Mourinho.

Securing the title looks a difficult task for the Red Devils but they, at the very least, have to make Pep Guardiola’s side work hard in order to secure the top flight crown. To do this, Manchester United need some reinforcements to their squad.

Jose Mourinho, in the press conference, has said that he is not a big admirer of January transfer window. But stated that if the right player is available, he will be spending the money for the player.

There are three clear weak points in Manchester United’s squad: the left back, an orthodox winger and a striker. With £80 million reportedly set to be made available to Mourinho, here are five suggestions that would appropriately fill those roles:

5) Kieran Tierney

Celtic v Kilmarnock - Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership

Left-back position has been a problem for Manchester United and already four players have been tried out at this position - Ashley Young, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw.

At just 20, the Scottish looks way beyond his years and has every chance to become one of the best defenders in the world. He has the ability to traverse the pitch for full 90 minutes. Also, Tierney has the pace and athleticism demanded of new-gen full-backs.

Tierney might not come for a cheap price but could be a viable target if United want a long-term solution to a position that has been a headache for Mourinho.

4) Andrea Belotti

Romelu Lukaku was brought by the Red Devils this summer. But, the Belgian has been unable to live up to expectations after the initial matches at Old Trafford. Manchester United is lacking the firepower upfront and Andrea Belotti might be the solution for it.

Belotti has a better conversion rate and he aims towards the goal every time he plays. Belotti is rumoured to leave Torino (his current club), with Chelsea, Juventus and AC Milan interested in this player. Manchester United should make the move for this player.

Price - £84 million (Buy-out clause as updated in June)

3) Justin Kluivert

Ajax Amsterdam v OSC Nice - UEFA Champions League Qualifying Third Round: Second Leg
Like Father Like Son?

The 18-year-old player, son of former star player Patrick Kluivert, has been targeted as an alternative to AS Monaco's Thomas Lemar by Mourinho. Making his debut for Ajax's senior side in January, the winger has scored 6 goals and 6 assists in his 27 appearances so far.

Kluivert was pictured speaking to the Manchester United in the aftermath of the Premier League side's Europa League victory over Ajax in Stockholm in May. He could turn to be the bargain option for Mourinho, who is also interested in Christian Pulisic and Thomas Lemar.

Furthermore, Kluivert is just 18, meaning signing him would help Red Devils in the long term, and he’s only going to get better as years go by. He is extremely talented and is arguably a player Manchester United should sign come winter.

2) Virgil van Dijk

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

The transfer saga involving Van Dijk has been a tedious affair. Van Dijk put in a transfer request which also could not change Southampton's will of keeping the centre-back at the club.

Van Dijk, at 6"4 in, has a towering presence and can intimidate forwards while being useful on the receiving end of set pieces. With the Dutchman unwilling to stay at Southampton and Liverpool being categorically ignored by the Saints this summer, it's set up perfectly for the Red Devils to swoop in and sign the centre-back.

Manchester United have looked wobbly at the back, especially without Eric Bailly, and van Dijk can be the ideal player for United's defence woes.

Liverpool is still said to be his number one choice but the arrival of Manchester City and Manchester United on the screen may make things interesting.

1) Julian Draxler

The German was signed by PSG last season. He had a flying start to his career at Parc des Princes. But the arrival of world record signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe has put Draxler's career in a fix. Along with these two, Draxler has to fight for a starting berth with Angel Di Maria, which has made life difficult for the former Schalke man.

Draxler has scored just 2 goals in Ligue 1 this season with his most influential performances for the Parisians coming in the cup competition.

PSG also need to sell some of their first team players in order to fit their wage bill and Draxler is on top of the list. With Arsenal and Juventus interested in this player, Manchester United should sign this player as fast as possible.
