World football history has been filled with spectacular duos, tandems, and partnerships. At times, it's arguable that a certain partnership has gone a long way towards clubs securing titles, silverware and stardom.

Football is everything about scoring goals, isn't it? Goals are the end product that decides the result of matches, which is why goalscorers enjoy the greatest share of fame. Football has seen a number of great goalscorers but a single player cannot score goals all alone. He needs a partner in crime.

Not every pair of strikers or attackers might share the same level of understanding. The top clubs in Europe are currently blessed with a host of talented attacking players, but some sides are blessed more than others. Here, we look at five of the best attacking duos in football this season.

#5 Marco Reus - Paco Alcacer (Borussia Dortmund)

Borussia Dortmund have been unstoppable this season. Not only are they on top of the table, but also they were the only Bundesliga side who were undefeated for 15 games into the season - it’s the first time ever BVB have managed the feat.

Alcacer has needed just 281 minutes to rack up his ten-goal tally. The BVB striker had pulverized the record for the quickest man to nine league strikes in Germany, set by Charly Dörfel, who needed a relatively pedestrian 565 minutes for his first nine Bundesliga goals for Hamburg in 1963/64. With nine strikes, Alcacer has already become Dortmund’s record-scoring super-sub.

Reus, the Dortmund captain, has always been one of the best players for them and this season too he has been in form and scored lots of goals.

"Marco Reus a big part of the reason I feel good at Borussia Dortmund" – Paco Alcacer

This is for the first time they both are playing together, as Alcacer was bought from Barcelona this summer and the understanding between both of them has won Dortmund many matches.

Stats:

Reus: 17 Goals and 8 Assists in 27 Games

Alcacer: 13 Goals and 2 Assists in 22 Games

#4 Mohamed Salah - Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Arguably, one of the most deadly front two in European football club - Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, have established that they are not going to stop scoring goals. With their pace and intelligent use of the ball, they score most goals on counter attacks.

Due to his tendency to drift in and create scoring opportunities, Salah is more of a striker than a winger, with Liverpool's style of play helping him score many goals. He is on the top of charts in terms of scoring goals in the Premier League.

Mane is more of a classic winger on the other hand, as he tends to hug the touchline and use his pace to get past his marker. The ability to use both feet helps him to score wonderful goals.

Stats:

Salah: 20 Goals and 7 Assists in 35 Games

Mane: 13 Goals and 1 Assist in 32 Games

#3 Sergio Aguero - Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Manchester City has a number of brilliant players in attacking positions and while it will be unfair to exclude Leroy Sane, David Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne from this list, there is no doubt that Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling's attacking duo is one of the best in the world.

Aguero is arguably one the best forwards of the Premier League, consistently scoring goals from the past 8 years. The Argentinean not only scores from the inside of the box, but also from the outside of the box, and has now scored more than 150 league goals, faster than many legends. He is one of the best players to play for Manchester City and has always been a key member of the squad.

One of the most improved players in the world, Sterling is on his way to becoming one of the best players in the world under Pep Guardiola. The winger drops deep to link play, applies his pace to start attacks.

Sterling and Aguero have been in terrific form this season and will hope to continue the form and try to win titles for Manchester City.

Stats:

Aguero: 24 Goals and 6 Assists in 31 Games

Sterling: 15 Goals and 12 Assists in 34 Games

The second most expensive player in the world, Mbappe has had a brilliant year leading PSG to the Ligue 1 title as well as helping France win their second World Cup title. Aged only 19, he is touted as a future Ballon d'Or winner and if he continues his form, there is no doubt we will see him on the podium in the near future. His pace is terrific and he runs past the defenders to score lots of goals. He is one of the best youngsters and shown why his price tag is so high.

One of the most prolific strikers in the world, Cavani is not as known as the best but has been an integral part of the PSG setup. On his day he is capable of the spectacular and rightly considered to be one of the best in the world.

Stats:

Mbappe: 25 Goals and 10 Assists in 30 Games

Cavani: 22 Goals and 5 Assists in 26 Games

Arguably the greatest player in the history of the sport, Lionel Messi has achieved superhuman feats during his career, with his numbers unlikely to be ever broken in the future. He has always been in terrific form and keeps scoring and giving assists. This season he is the captain of Barcelona and is leading the side very well by scoring almost a goal in each game. Whenever Barcelona need a goal or two, he steps up and scores one for them. He is a player who can win you matches on his own.

Suarez was said to be on the wane, but the Uruguayan has shown once again why he is considered to be among the best strikers in the world. His hold-up play and ability to make space for Messi are second to none. His finishing ability is the best and he is one of those players who gives everything on the pitch. Though he has not scored in the Champions League so far, he has been great in the La Liga.

Both these players are on the top 2 of the goals scoring chart in the La Liga, with Messi currently leading.
