5 footballers and the equivalent cars they represent

Wales v Andorra - UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier
As fast as the Bugatti

One of the things that human beings love doing is compare. We all love to evaluate things at every turn. Want to buy a laptop? Compare between the different brands. Want to buy anything? Compare and infer.

While doing the comparison, we begin to realise the similarities and the differences between the products. It is while doing so, that I began to find out the links between a football player and some certain cars.

And so came the concept of this article: comparing footballers to cars, and deciphering which car brands they best represent:

#5 Gareth Bale – Bugatti (Veyron and Chiron)

What’s the first thing that comes in mind when thinking of Gareth Bale? It’s perhaps the same thing that comes to your mind when thinking about a Bugatti: SPEED. Indeed, the Welsh international initially burst into the scene because of his pace: just like the Buggati Veyron.

I remember the kids in my class back in the day when the Veyron was released. We were all banged up about the fact that it could go from 0-100kmph in 3 seconds and had a maximum speed of 408kmph. When Gareth Bale was making his way into the world of competitive football, he was pretty much like the Veyron.

However, after his game against Inter Milan, he upgraded from the Veyron to the Bugatti Chiron – quicker, stronger and much more powerful. The Chiron has a larger turbo and injectors when compared to the Veyron – which is what we could say about the internationally acclaimed star that we see at the Bernabeu now, and the younger version of himself that first walked into the Bernabeu.

#4 Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Monster truck (Grave Digger)

Manchester United v Sunderland - Premier League
Ibrahimovic is a monster

What else did you expect? Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a force of nature, a God among mere mortals, a tsunami in the ocean, an inferno in paradise, a Samurai in the battlefield, a world-class footballer on the football pitch – he is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a monster.

But he is the type of monster that strikes you with awe – unless, of course, you are the person burdened with the responsibility of defending against him, in which case, it's just fear that he strikes. So which vehicle could possibly represent the Swedish legend better than the Monster Truck?

None.

If I had to choose one model, it would be the Grave Digger – the name is apt, isn’t it? – as it is not only the ultimate Monster Truck, but also has a cool badass feel to it. Also, since Ibrahimovic has been personally responsible for digging the graves of many defenders, this seems like the perfect amalgamation that we would all love to see.

Imagine the smug look on Zlatan's face while he's seated in the driver's seat of the Grave Digger. Intimidated? Yeah, me too.

#3 Radja Nainggolan – Honda Civic

AS Roma v SSC Napoli - Serie A
Nainggolan is Roma's reliable man

A lot of people might be offended by this comparison since Honda isn’t really a glamorous car like some of the ones mentioned here, but bear with me on this one.

Imagine going out on a drive with your loved one. It is just an aimless drive as you pass through unchartered territories consisting of uneven terrains or slippery roads. However, you are not scared because you know that your car won’t fail you because it is a Honda – the most reliable car in the world.

The others might have expensive sports cars, but for you, your Honda is the best and you won’t sell it for anything else.

That is what Radja Nainggolan is – he is Roma's Mr. Reliable. According to research, Honda is the most reliable car brand as they have a failure rate of 0.29% - something you could say about Radja Nainggolan.

The Belgian is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world and has been one of Roma’s most important players. Despite being highly coveted, he has stuck with Roma and is trying to forge them into a European giant.

This is why he is a Honda Civic – ever-consistent and reliable, with nothing too flashy about him.

#2 Cristiano Ronaldo – Ferrari F12

Real Madrid CF v Levante UD - La Liga
Cristiano Ronaldo loves cars

Apart from scoring a lot of goals, winning a lot of Ballon d’Ors and other personal accolades, clinching team titles with Real Madrid and Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo loves one thing a lot: cars.

Actually, he loves his children and family, too, so the “one thing” in the above sentence isn’t entirely true – but you get the point. Anyways, the Portuguese star has a car collection worth close to £6 million and owns both, the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron.

However, the car that truly represents him is his Ferrari F12, worth around £200,000 and with a top speed of 340kmph. When it comes to sports cars, the Ferrari F12 is among the very best – something that runs parallel to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Manchester United star is one of the greatest player football has ever seen – which is the same case in terms of Ferrari and the world of motor vehicles. The Italian company is highly reputed and their cars are equally coveted by sports car fanatics

Similarly, if you have a team that doesn't have Cristiano Ronaldo in it, you would always wish that he was, because not only does he look cool, he is also a great performer.

#1 Lionel Messi – Rolls Royce Phantom

FC Barcelona v RCD Espanyol - La Liga
Messi is the best player of his generation

There will be a lot of things said, a lot of whispers passed, a lot of hopes left unfulfilled – but that won’t change the fact that Lionel Messi is the best player produced by this generation. He might not have won anything with and for Argentina, and might never win anything either, but it can’t undermine what he is capable of doing with the ball at his feet.

The only car that I can think of to relate to him would be the best luxury car in the world: the Rolls Royce Phantom.

The Phantom is the most technologically advanced car from the British company and stands unparalleled in vigour among its rivals – just like the Argentine in Barcelona. At £318,120, it might not be the most expensive car in the world, but it is certainly priceless like Lionel Messi is to Barcelona.

And he, too, didn’t cost Barcelona much as he was brought to the academy as a teenager and then went on to surge up to the first team. Imagine if Messi was sold now, how much money would he cost?

But regardless of how much he costs, his importance will always be invaluable. Pretty much what a Rolls Royce would be to anyone who has one, eh?
