Dejan Lovren has been the chink in Liverpool’s armour more often than not

On his day, Lovren is exceptionally good while on some days, he has been the chink in Liverpool’s armour. The most expensive Liverpool defender in history, Lovren, is playing his third season at Anfield and the fans are still not fully convinced with him. Lovren is extremely sloppy with the ball at his feet and often puts the team in danger.
Aged 27, the Croatia player should have been at the peak of his career now but his inconsistency has let the fans down time and time again. He was decent at Lyon and Southampton previously before joining Liverpool but has hardly improved at Anfield.

Lovren arrived at Liverpool in 2014 as Rodgers saw him as a replacement of legendary Daniel Agger in the long run but he has failed to live to the monumental expectations. The Croat has shown some glimpses of improvement since Klopp took over but he is yet to fully convince at the heart of the defence.
Lovren has made just 1.5 tackles and 1.7 interceptions every game this campaign in the Premier League which is nowhere close to impressive. Liverpool have the worst defensive record among the top seven clubs and Lovren is largely responsible for that as he often switches off when the team is in danger.

Snehanjan Banerjee
Snehanjan is a journalist at Sportskeeda covering European football news. A hardcore Liverpool fan for over two decades, he has been covering the game since the past 8 years and always strives to give readers relevant, accurate and credible content.
Snehanjan developed an interest in football at a very young age, thanks to his father watching football on TV. His favorite player is club legend Steven Gerrard and his favorite manager is another legend in Jurgen Klopp. The ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ i.e., Liverpool beating AC Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final left an indelible mark on him. He believes that Liverpool is a family unlike other top clubs, which sets them apart.
Snehanjan also follows Indian Super League and the I-League, although the latter is closer to his heart. If he could change a rule in football, it would be VAR not pointing out mistakes of on-field officials unless they are clear and obvious errors. Outside the football world, Snehanjan likes to explore the various genres of music and watch movies and shows on OTT. He’s also a car enthusiast and likes to follow the automobile world.
