Could Forrest, Tarkowski or Coady be on their way to Anfield?

For decades, the football world has heard how this will be Liverpool’s year. And time and time again, it’s proved not to be Liverpool’s year, regardless of big signings, regardless of how close they’ve come, and regardless of just how badly the Anfield faithful are desperate to see the Premier League trophy in their bulging trophy cabinet.

But really, as much as it sounds like a cliché by this point, this season really could be Liverpool’s year.

Currently, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are sat at the top of the Premier League ahead of Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea. Sure, there’s still a whole lot to play for, but right now it’s Liverpool’s title to throw away.

How Liverpool manage the rest of the season is obviously key, and similarly so is how they manage the now-open January transfer window. A key January signing or two has so often been the difference between success and failure for teams throughout the whole football world. And so, if Liverpool can bring in the right some of personnel in January, that could well give them that extra boost that they’re looking for as they attempt to bring home their first championship title since 1990.

With all of that in mind then, here are 5 signings who could push Liverpool towards Premier League glory.

5) Moanes Dabour

With Liverpool a little short on attacking back-up right now, one name who has emerged as a potential January signing is Moanes Dabour.

Having bagged 20 goals in 30 outings for Red Ball Salzburg this season, the Israeli striker has well and truly put himself in the public eye. And not only that, but he is seemingly keen to put himself in the shop window.

If Italian outlet Tuttomercatwoeb is to be believed, the former Maccabi Tel Aviv and Grasshoppers player is eagerly trying to secure himself a move to Liverpool. The outlet is reporting that Dabour outright wants to move to Liverpool and wants to work under Jurgen Klopp.

Of course, each and every one of us could say we want to play for Liverpool, for Real Madrid, for Juventus, for Paris Saint-Germain, but it means nothing if the club has zero interest in the player in question.

Whether Liverpool have any genuine interest in Dabour remains to be seen, but the last couple of weeks have seen him regularly rumored as being a possible signing for the Reds, . And given his impressive form this season, he could well prove to be a useful addition should Salah, Firmino and Mane be in need of a rest.

4) Pascal Gross

While the majority of Liverpool fans would be eyeing defensive cover during this transfer window, others feel that their side is lacking a little bit of spark in the middle of the park at times. We mean, if you’re lining up with both Jordan Henderson and James Milner as two of your three midfield players, it’s not always going to make for the most dynamic of midfield performances.

One such player who could maybe add a little spark to the Liverpool midfield, however, is Brighton’s Pascal Gross. And if The Metro is to be believed, Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield brass are weighing up making a move for the German playmaker.

Gross was in inspired form last season for Chris Hughton’s Brighton, but this year he’s been troubled by injury at times. Still, the 27-year-old midfielder is easily one of the Seagull’s star men. Similarly, he’s also one of their most valuable.

With funds tight at Brighton, it could be that the club would be open to selling the player in order to raise funds to help their own build to stay in the Premier League for a third season. Given how they’ve often managed to play well with Gross injured and out of the team this season, it may be that an offer in the region of £20 million might be too hard to turn down.

3) James Tarkowski

Having joined Burnley from Brentford in 2016, it was the 2017/2018 campaign that saw James Tarkowski emerge as one of the best English central-defenders around. So much so, the Manchester-born player now has 2 England caps to his name.

Sean Dyche’s men have had a poor first half to the current Premier League season, but Tarkowski has still been one of the team’s better performers and has managed to retain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, which has kept him on top of Premier League Transfer News, linking him to multiple clubs.

What makes Tarkowski a good option for Liverpool, of course, is simply the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have a clear issue at centre-back. Virgil Van Dijk has been a phenomenal signing for Klopp and was forming a fantastic partnership with Joe Gomez until injury struck young Gomez, but elsewhere there have been several issues for the 5-time Champions League winners.

Dejan Lovren has again proved that he is far, far too prone to errors to be a regular starter in a team competing for top prizes, Joel Matip is decent but injury prone, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a brilliant prospect but again has been prone to picking up knocks, and right-back Nathaniel Clyne has now joined Bournemouth on loan.

Liverpool need defensive cover, particularly in the centre-back position as they look to win their first title since 1990, and James Tarkowski certainly fits the bill as a great ball-winning traditional centre-half to partner Virgil Van Dijk. In fact, The Sun is reporting that Burnley will be willing to sell the player – for £50 million!

2) James Forrest

For the past several years, tricky winger James Forrest has often starred as Celtic have romped to trophy after trophy in Scotland. He’s clearly been a standout in the SPL, but many have questioned whether the flying forward could be a success in the English Premier League due to, with all respect, Scottish football not quite being as strong as the EPL.

Right now, The Scottish Sun has been reporting that Forrest could indeed be heading to England as he’s emerged as a target for Liverpool. Now 27 and with 26 Scotland caps to his name, now is as good as time as any for Forrest to try his hand outside of Scotland, and the fast, frenetic, high pressing style of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could well be a good fit for the Celtic youth product.

Liverpool already have a deadly forward line, with the trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane usually starting in attack for the Anfield outfit. Away from Xherdan Shaqiri, Liverpool are lacking any real alternatives to this triumvirate, though. Divock Origi seems more likely to leave Liverpool than be a genuine squad player right now, whereas Daniel Sturridge is just simply “there”.

If the reported asking price of £8 million is indeed true, signing up James Forrest could be a shrewd bit of business for Liverpool.

1) Conor Coady

As alluded to elsewhere in this piece, Liverpool are in desperate need to bring in some defensive cover as they look to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League.

One defender who has massively impressed in the EPL this season has been former Reds player Conor Coady. As captain of Wolves, Coady has played a huge part in the Molineux side having such a great start upon their return to the Premier League. But could those impressive performances have put Coady in the crosshairs of certain other Premier League clubs? If reports are to be believed, yes.

Currently, it’s believed that Wolves are desperately trying to get their captain to agree to a new deal amidst interest from Arsenal. And while the Gunners are showing the strongest interest in Coady, another club sniffing around him are Liverpool.

Born in Liverpool, a Liverpool supporter, a Liverpool youth player, and even a member of the Liverpool first-team squad at one point, there’s a whole lot of reasons why Conor Coady may view an Anfield return as a more appealing proposition than a move to Arsenal.

Wolves are ready to make Coady one of their top earners, but even a huge contract offer may not be enough to keep the England hopeful at Molineux should his hometown club come a-calling.
