5 Liverpool players who should move in the January transfer window

Tranmere Rovers v Liverpool - Pre Season Friendly
It is time Markovic found himself a new home.

The winter transfer window opens in less than a month and while that largely brings optimism amongst the millions of football fans worldwide, it is also a window that forces numerous footballers to contemplate on their future with their respective clubs.

While some players might want to leave on the account of lack of playing time due to existing talent, some might be seeking a move elsewhere due to their inability to adjust to a certain league or a country.

Now, let's take a look at 5 Liverpool players who should seek a move away from Anfield to ensure their careers remain on track.

#5 Lazar Markovic

Football fans might find it hard to believe that Lazar Markovic still remains a Liverpool player to this day. The move to Anfield was believed to be a natural progression in the career of the Serbian who had been instrumental for Partizan and Benfica prior to his move to the Merseyside and genuinely excited Liverpool fans who had watched him create havoc for Benfica in the Portuguese League.

However, three and a half years later, the now the 23-year-old finds himself on the fringes for the Reds and is finding it tough to get some game time in a side that already boasts of very strong attacking resources.

So his current situation begs the question, what is he still doing at Anfield? Yes, he's at a hefty weekly wage packet but at 23 years of age, playing regularly should perhaps be of far greater importance to the former Benfica man.

Markovic has spent the last 2 seasons on loan at the likes of Fenerbahce, Sporting CP and Hull City but those moves have not helped to get his flailing career back on track and it is perhaps time to find himself a new home where he continues to regain his lost stature as one of the brightest young attackers in the game.

Yes, there are various aspects of his game that need improvement but he has the raw potential and it is perhaps not too late to force a move to perhaps a smaller league to regain his lost confidence.

#4 Danny Ward

Sheffield Wednesday v Huddersfield Town - Sky Bet Championship Play Off Semi Final: Second Leg
Ward has failed to displace the erratic duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius as Liverpool's Numero Uno.

Contrary to the common belief amongst the Liverpool faithful that Danny Ward is the long-term solution to the goalkeeping problem at the club, we, for one believe that the goalkeeper might not be the right man.

For beginners, the Welshman is already 25 years old and while that is considerably young when you happen to be a goalkeeper, he is actually as old as Loris Karius on whom Jurgen Klopp has invested time and money upon.

That brings us to the all-important question, will Danny Ward ever get a chance to prove himself to Klopp? The answer is no and for that situation to reverse itself, Ward will need to prove his mettle in the top flight of a competitive league.

We believe he missed a glorious opportunity to remain at Huddersfield for another season, especially after his heroics in the last season (He kept 12 clean sheets in 43 last season and was instrumental in Huddersfield gaining promotion) as he could have had better chances of playing regularly with the Terriers and is currently restricted to making appearances for the club’s U-23 side.

However, all is not lost for the former Wrexham man who could still force his way into the footballing limelight for he has shown that he possesses the requisite technical expertise.

All he needs now is regular game time and Ward will need to ensure that he is on the move to a club in the upcoming transfer window to get his development as a goalkeeper back on track.

#3 Danny Ings

Adelaide United v Liverpool FC
The plethora of attacking talent at Anfield is bound to keep Ings out of the side.

It was not very long ago that Liverpool were believed to be lacking the requisite depth in their attack as the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi failed to perform regularly. The arrival of Danny Ings was seen as a welcome move by the club to add to their attacking options.

After all, the Winchester born striker had scored an impressive 37 goals in 85 appearances for Burnley prior to joining the Reds and his ability in and around the box was expected to yield a better depth in the side’s attack.

However, the arrival of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah apart from the impressive form of Roberto Firmino has resulted in Liverpool having being spoilt for choice and while that has been a great thing for the club’s fans, Danny Ings has suffered, that despite being amongst the goals for the club’s reserves side.

In some ways, one could count Ings to be extremely lucky as he has spent a considerable time on the medical table, with most of it coming when Liverpool were struggling for attacking options.

However, all is not lost for the England international as clinical strikers remain in demand across Europe. Ings would be wise to accept a move, even if on loan in the upcoming transfer window in order to get some game time.

And his ability to consistently find the back of the net could do clubs like Newcastle United and West Ham United a world of good (both the clubs have been linked with the player over the recent weeks).

#2 Harry Wilson

Reading U18 v Liverpool U18 - FA Youth Cup 6th Round
Wilson is now finding it tough to break into the first team and should move away to prove his mettle.

Once touted to be the future of Liverpool’s attack, Harry Wilson is still struggling to break into the starting line-up while the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn have managed to sneak into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

The Wrexham born winger, who joined Liverpool’s youth side at a very young age, has been impressive for the club and country at youth level but that has not impressed Jurgen Klopp enough to warrant him even a fringe role at the club and that is becoming a concern amongst the Liverpool faithful.

The free-scoring winger, who has developed a penchant for toying with the opposition defenders has been amongst the goals since being promoted to the U-23 side and has added 11 goals to his tally this season after scoring an impressive 28 goals last season.

At 20 years of age, it is time Wilson found regular game time in the top flight to justify his stature as one of the brightest young talents in Europe.

Perhaps a loan move would work wonders for the player as well as the club and it comes as no surprise to us that Wilson has been touted to be amongst the players who could be on the way out of Anfield, come to the transfer window.

After all, while being impressive, his performances for the club’s youth sides have not done anything to increase his stock as a footballer and Wilson now needs to put his foot down to ensure either first-team football or an opportunity to seek it elsewhere.

#1 Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers - The Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round
Sturridge runs the risk of not travelling to Russia for the World Cup due to his limited playing time.

Is there a better attacking quartet in the Premier League ahead of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho? The aforementioned players have been tearing teams apart in recent weeks and seem to be forming a partnership that could form the cornerstone of Liverpool’s success in years to come, should they manage to hold on to the players.

One player, who was previously believed to be the man who would lead Liverpool’s attack for several years to come, would not exactly be pleased with the current happenings at the club and that is Daniel Sturridge.

The Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield over the course of the last 18 months and has found game time hard to come by. In fact, the 28-year-old has started just 12 games in the League and the UEFA Champions League since the start of the last season.

Given his injury record, it is believed that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t see Sturridge as a reliable source of goals at the club and it is perhaps time for Sturridge to save his career by forcing a move away from the club or he could soon disappear in footballing oblivion.

While he remains a solid option for the Reds from the bench, his sporadic appearances aren’t doing his chances of travelling to Russia any good and we believe Daniel is wise enough to see what is right for him so do not be surprised to see him move in the upcoming transfer window.
