Rio Ferdinand keeps Defoe at bay

Another White Hart Lane fixture, but not one the Nort Londoners will remember fondly. Harry Redknapp's side started with a familiar 4-4-2 with Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe led the line for Spurs and just 38 seconds in, Defoe produced superb overhead kick to put Spurs ahead for the fastest goal of the season.

Peter Crouch's height and Defoe's pace made it difficult for United defence as they tried to cope with the physical challenge of the Spurs forward line.

In the 24th minute, however, Ryan Giggs scored a free-kick and levelled matters. Manchester United then controlled the game and their constant pressing paid off as Anderson scored from a poor clearance by Ledley King.

Tottenham still kept trying hard to regain parity but failed to make too much progress. They were given another opening when Paul Scholes, captaining United, was sent off after a second yellow card for a challenge on Tom Huddlestone. The Red Devils held on to their slender lead though and Wayne Rooney scored from a brilliant ball from the right wing to make it 3-1, completing another amazing comeback under Sir Alex Ferguson.
