The costliest deadline day deal in the history of the Premier League unfolded a couple of seasons ago in January 2018. The Gunners had broken the bank to get Alexandre Lacazette in the summer of 2017 but were prepared to go big once again six months later. The club had been tracking Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and began their pursuit of the player during the winter transfer window.

Aubameyang had scored 141 goals from 213 appearances for the Black and Yellows and was considered one of the best strikers in Europe at that moment. After two failed offers, Dortmund finally agreed to a deal on the final day of the window. The Gunners paid the Bundesliga side £56 million for the services of Aubameyang, which was a club record at that time.

The Gabon international took to life in the Premier League like a fish to water and scored 10 times from 14 appearances in the second half of the 2017-18 season. Last season, he managed 31 goals from 51 appearances and even won the Premier League Golden Boot, scoring 22 times in 36 games in the league. This season too, Aubameyang has been in top form and remains one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players.

Inspired by Diego Maradona, Deepungsu played as an attacking midfielder for his local club at subdivision level in his initial years and scored an important goal or two. However, his all-time favorite footballer is Lionel Messi, and evidently, he feels Argentina's glory in 2022 is his favorite FIFA World Cup moment for fulfilling his long-standing dream. He is also an ardent East Bengal fan.
Deepungsu has been a Manchester United supporter since the year 2000. Unsurprisingly, his favorite manager is Sir Alex Ferguson and the Scotsman helped him get through some of the toughest days of his life. Like the fiery Scot, Deepungsu also leaves no stone unturned when it comes to accuracy in articles and only relies on credible sources.
Despite believing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to create an iconic rivalry, Deepungsu reckons no one can match the longevity of Messi and Ronaldo. He spends his leisure time writing about life on his blog, reading books, and playing the guitar.
