#2. Ousmane Dembele - Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona for £97m (2017)

When Neymar made his record-breaking transfer to PSG last summer, Barcelona were desperate to find replacements for the Brazilian superstar. However, clubs demanded astronomical fees for their players knowing Barcelona had a war chest.
Dembele was one of Barcelona’s main transfer targets but Borussia Dortmund were unwilling to sanction a move for a player they acquired a year ago for just €15m.
Eventually, the player went AWOL and Dortmund allowed the player to join Barcelona only after they received €105m for the player with another €40m in bonuses. This made him the second most expensive transfer at that time behind Neymar but it is now the fourth most expensive transfer ever.
Dembele’s first season at Barcelona hasn’t gone according to play because of injuries but he is fit ahead of the new season and scored a sensational winner in the Supercopa de Espana against Sevilla.
Barcelona will be hoping that this season the player will deliver performances that warranted such a hefty price tag.
