#4 Copa America
The oldest continental football tournament in the world has been constantly improving in recent years. The first Copa America was played in 1916 to commemorate Argentina’s independence and the competition has since flourished to become one of the most sought-after trophies in world football.
Contested by the CONMEBOL countries, the Copa America also invites countries from other continents to take part in the competition – to primarily make up numbers but also to popularise the event across the world.
Currently held by Chile who have won the last two tournaments on the trot, the Copa America’s biggest winners are Uruguay even though the likes of Argentina, Brazil and Colombia participate in every tournament.
The 2016 Centenario edition of the Copa America was broadcasted to over 160 countries in the world and was viewed by approximately 1.5 billion people.
