5 of the fastest goals in English Premier League history

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City - Premier League
Christian Eriksen scored a goal against Man United in just 10.5 seconds

It is never too early to score in a game of football. As such, the fastest goal of all time came in just 8.1 seconds. It was scored by Christian Benteke in the World Cup Qualifier 2017 (Belgium 6-0 Gibraltar). A fast goal gives your team an early lead and boosts the confidence of the players.

The nature of these fast goals can differ from sheer complacency on the part of the opponents, to a lucky deflection, to the talent of individual players. Right on this note, let us have a look on the top 5 fastest goals in the history of English Premier League.

#5 Dwight Yorke (1995): 13 seconds

Dwight Yorke
Yorke formed a lethal goalscoring partnership with Andy Cole at Manchester United

The Smiling Assassin, Dwight Yorke, formed a lethal partnership with Andy Cole at Manchester United, but he made a record of scoring the fastest goal of that time, while he played for Aston Villa.

Mark Draper sent Ian Taylor clear down the right and he put in a perfect cross which Yorke was able to convert after just 13 seconds since kickoff.

The footage of him scoring this goal is hard to find as it is lost in time, but according to reports, it was an outstanding goal.

4) Mark Viduka (2001): 11 seconds

Real Madrid v Leeds Utd
Mark Viduka is one of the few Australians to make a mark in the Premier League

At number 4, we have 'The Duke', Mark Viduka, who is the only Australian on this list. He was never renowned for his pace but he was too quick for Charlton.

Alan Smith rose to flick the ball from Ian Harte into Mark Viduka's path, who took one touch before steering a perfect shot to give Leeds the lead.

The former Australian captain played 130 league games for the Leeds, scoring 59 times.

3) Christian Eriksen (2017): 10.5 seconds

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Christian Eriksen's goal was 0.6 seconds slower than the fastest goal in the Premier League

On Wednesday, Christian Eriksen scored the third fastest goal of the Premier League after just 10.5 seconds for Tottenham against Manchester United.

After Kane and Dele Alli failed to score, the Danish midfielder followed up to curl expertly past David De Gea with his left foot, giving Spurs an early lead.

Eriksen's goal was just 0.1 seconds slower than the 2nd fastest goal in this list. Nevertheless, he is the newest player on the list.

2) Alan Shearer (2003): 10.4 seconds

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United
Alan Shearer is the only player to score 100 goals for two clubs

One of the greatest strikers produced by the Premier League takes the 2nd spot in this list. Just 0.5 seconds behind the fastest goal in the world, this goal is the true evidence of Alan Shearer's talent and hard work. Shearer is also the top goal scorer in the Premier League with 260 goals.

The Manchester City defence directed the ball back to the goalkeeper Carlo Nash, but the keeper slipped momentarily giving Shearer a chance to close him down. Shearer did that and scored a goal just 10.04 seconds into the game.

After getting an early lead, Newcastle went on to win the game (2-0) quite comfortably against Manchester City.

1) Ledley King (2000): 9.9 seconds

Ledley King of Tottenham Hotspur
The first ever goal for Tottenham by King sets record in history as the fastest goal in the history of the Premier League.

The legendary Tottenham defender, who retired from professional football in 2012, is the unlikely holder of the record for the fastest goal in the history of Premier League.

Ledley King found himself with the ball 25 yards away from the Bradfrod goal. He lashed a shot which deflected off the unfortunate Andy O'Brien and went in after just 9.9 seconds. The goal beat the previous record of 13 seconds set by Dwight Yorke with Aston Villa in 1995, and still stands as the fastest goal of the Premier League

King was one of the best defenders in England but because of his severe injuries, he did not fulfil his potential.
