Just like with Dembélé, this one would be more for replacement purposes. Samuel Umtiti appears to be edging closer towards a lucrative switch to Manchester United - which could also benefit any deal for Martial.
Ajax have had to settle for second place in this season's Eredivisie but without Matthijs de Ligt in their backline, they may have had to accept UEFA Europa League football instead.
The teenage centre-back has played 31 of their 33 league fixtures, captaining the side on three occasions during their end of season run-in.
de Ligt's impact has certainly not gone unnoticed and he could be rewarded with the Eredivisie Player of the Year accolade, which many believe he deserves. This has turned heads amongst some of Europe's heavyweights and it will be quite a surprise if the 18-year-old is still in Amsterdam come September.
He would slot in as a perfect long-term replacement for Umtiti and potentially even Gerard Pique, who at 31, will not have many more years at the top of his game. However, replacing the latter would not be the aim if de Ligt was signed - as he himself is not yet the finished article.
A more mature defender would be required to fill, what will be, a huge void when Pique eventually leaves.
