#3 Alex Song

After initially struggling to impose himself in the Arsenal midfield following his €4m move from Bastia in 2005, Alex Song was sent out on loan to Charlton Athletic.

He returned as a more mature and refined midfielder and instantly became a key man at the centre of the park for Arsenal. After impressing with the Gunners, Alex Song completed a shock €19m move to Barcelona in 2012.

The Cameroon international would find it hard to break into the Barcelona set-up, though, considering the quality of players in the side.

Song had limited first-team opportunities to impress before he was sent out on successive loan spells at West Ham United. He joined Rubin Kazan for free in 2016.

#4 Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka burst onto the scene at Arsenal between 1996 and 1999. His 1998-99 campaign with Arsenal was simply superb, as he bagged 17 goals in 35 league appearances.

Anelka moved to the La Liga, signing for Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid. However, he was at the Santiago Bernabeu for just one season, as his stint was marred with several off-field controversies.

Anelka eventually fell out \with the Real Madrid fans before being slapped with a 45-day suspension for refusing to show up at team training.

The former Arsenal man managed just two goals during his stint with Real Madrid before he was shipped to Paris Saint-Germain.

While Anelka has enjoyed a somewhat trophy-filled career, he never truly hit the heights he attained with Arsenal, despite playing for a plethora of elite clubs.

#5 Alexander Hleb

Alexander Hleb completed a hefty €15m move to Arsenal from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart in 2000. He instantly justified his transfer fee, as his quick fit and silky moves made him a thorn in the flesh of any opposition.

The former Belarus international was also versatile and could comfortably play both out wide as a winger or centrally as a playmaker. However, he moved to Barcelona on a €17m transfer two years after, as he looked to win some silverware.

While he instantly achieved his objective, winning the famous continental treble with Barcelona, he struggled to break into the Blaugrana first team.

As his playing time was limited, Hleb was sent on loan spells to Stuttgart, Birmingham City and Wolfsburg before he completed a free transfer move to Russian club Krylya Sovetov Samara.

He featured for five different clubs after that, including Turkish outfit Konyaspor and Genclerbirligi, before retiring at BATE Borisov.
