5 players who are underpaid at Manchester United

Manchester United are back to having the stars in their team.

While the title itself would appear contradictory in the first place, given United's extensive wage-bill, it is that a few players at the club are being underpaid.

To put it better: the performances of some players have made their transfer fee and wages look like a steal. Manchester United have often been accused of offering astronomical wages to secure the transfer of some players.

Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku are not only the club's top earners but also the Premier League's. However, there is a set of players at the club whose current wages are totally unjustified when their performances on the pitch are taken into consideration.

That said, here is a list of the players who are underpaid at the richest football club in the world.

# 5. Antonio Valencia : £100,000-a-week

Valencia has establihshed himself as the best right-back in the Premier League.

Antonio Valencia is one of the few Fergie era players still left at Manchester United. The 32-year-old was signed by the former boss in 2009 to fill in for the departing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Valencia never excelled for the club at the right wing job but in past couple of years, the player has been given a new role at the right-back position. The full-back position appears to be tailor-made match for the Ecuadorian and he bosses his opponents from that position.

Valencia has established himself as one of the best players in the position and his pace, strength and tackling are almost unmatched in the country. He is also United's top choice for the position despite his age which seems to be nothing but a number.

The fact that he is being paid a little less than his teammate Ashley Young is absolutely ridiculous, considering how much more Manchester United depend on Valencia.

# 4. Eric Bailly : £75,000-a-week

Bailly has returned after a severe injury this month.

Eric Bailly arrived at Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho's first signing as the United boss in 2016. From his first appearance in the league, he has shaped tp to be the player the club had been craving for in defence.

The Ivorian is known for his strength, pace, tackling and bravery in front of the forwards. Bailly is an absolute beast when it comes to throwing himself to challenges and making interceptions.

The 23-year-old has often been hailed to be the successor of Nemanja Vidic at the club and has justified his credentials so far.

He is United's best centre-back at the moment still earns lesser than the likes of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof.

Anything below £100,000-a-week is simply not justice to the player's abilities.

# 3. Marcus Rashford : £20,000-a-week

Marcus Rashford has been impressive to watch for United.

Widely regarded to be one of the most exciting young talents in Europe, Marcus Rashford's wages are nowhere near burning a whole in United's pockets.

Rashford is considered to be the future of football alongside Kylian Mbappe, Marco Asensio and Osumane Dembele. The English forward rose through the ranks at Old Trafford under Louis Van Gaal, and made an eye-catching start to his career by netting a brace in a home victory against Arsenal.

Rashford has been a regular under Jose Mourinho's management as well. Alexis Sanchez's arrival in January has seen the former's game time reduced at the club but the 20-year-old has 10 goals and 8 assists for the Red Devils already this season.

It seems only a matter of time before United tie him up with a bigger contract with improved terms with the club.

# 2. Anthony Martial : £65,000-a-week

<p>
Anthony Martial is enjoying his best season at United in 2017/18.

Apart from the FA cup, Anthony Martial is probably the only thing Manchester United fans thank Louis Van Gaal for. The Frenchman was signed by the Dutch boss from AS Monaco in 2015.

The French forward was considered to be heir to the legendary Thierry Henry in the embryonic stages of his career, but has proved that he has enough quality to make a name for himself in the future.

The 22-year-old has been among United's best players this season and is only destined to get better in the future. From the left-flank, the player has scored 11 goals and turned provider for another 10 goals for his team.

Talks are believed to take place between the club and player's agent over a new contract for Martial, whose current deal ends in 2019. Jose Mourinho is reportedly furious with the club over the delay to tie up such a talented player with better terms.

# 1. David de Gea : £200,000-a-week

David de Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world presently

We know what you are thinking. £200,000-a-week is less? Hear us out.

Gary Neville recently said that David de Gea is the only world-class player United have at the moment. At this point, there is not much to argue about that theory.

Manchester United's current season would have been far from satisfactory had it not been for de Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper is in the form of his life and appears to be unbeatable at the moment. He has 15 clean sheets in the league and leads the charts for the same.

De Gea's reaction time and reading of the game is extraordinary and so is the fact that United have managed to keep a hold of such a sensational player. The goalkeeper is the club's best player at the moment.

His current deal expires at the end of 2018/19 season. United are believed to have initiated negotiations with the player's agent over a new contract.

At his current wages, De Gea is a steal. It would be pointless if the Red Devils' best player is not their best paid player.
