5 players who could leave Manchester United this summer

Manchester City v Manchester United - Premier League
Mourinho pulled a tactical masterclass in the Manchester Derby

Jose Mourinho is regarded as one of the toughest Premier League managers. After years of experience in England, he is known to be stubborn with his defensive style of play. It is extremely hard to impress the Portuguese manager as most players just have that one chance to shine for their side. Once players fail to earn his trust, they are certain to lose their spot in the starting line-up forever.

There are clearly plenty of players on the team not given the opportunity to live up to the standards they have set for themselves right from the beginning of the season. For instance, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw have both been missing for a large part of the season. They seem to be nowhere near Mourinho's outline of plans.

Even some of the young and talented players are missing out on regular action due to Mourinho's firm and stubborn belief in other senior ones. One particular loanee is keen to make his loan a certain move away from Old Trafford. This coming summer, there could be as many as five players leaving the club in a permanent move.

#5 Anthony Martial

Manchester United v Brighton & Hove Albion - The Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final
Martial has not made an appearance since his club's FA Cup victory against Brighton

The French international's last Premier League appearance came in late February. Since then, Martial missed two games due to a thigh injury and spent another two on the bench. For a young talented player like him, Martial will definitely desire more game time in order to play a part in France's World Cup journey this coming summer.

After Alexis Sanchez's arrival from Arsenal, the Chilean has taken over the left wing, usurping Martial's role in the team. Although Sanchez has not been enjoying the best of time since the move, Jose Mourinho has shown preference to play him over the French youngster

Martial is currently linked with moves away from Old Trafford this summer, to possible destinations such as Juventus and even Paris Saint-Germain. He could well be preparing for a move this summer.

#4 Daley Blind

Manchester United v Derby County - The Emirates FA Cup Third Round
Blind hasn't been able to play for most of the season

From the beginning of the season till date, Blind has just played three full matches for his club in the Premier League. He spent most of the season either on the bench or not even in the squad. In end January, he suffered a malleolar injury and has not recovered from it.

The Dutchman was initially supposed to move to Roma, but the deal fell through after financial concerns from the Italian side.

With his contract coming to an end this summer, it is widely speculated that he will be saying goodbye to his club in the summer together with Matteo Darmian. The defensive midfielder who can also play as a defender is expected to be asked to move in order to have space to welcome new summer signings.

#3 Luke Shaw

Huddersfield Town v Manchester United - The Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round
Shaw has been unable to gain Mourinho's trust

Shaw's contract with Manchester United ends this summer and he has yet to sign a new deal. In the last ten Premier League matches, he has played just thrice, been on the bench six times and most recently, he was out of the squad.

Since his gruesome and career-threatening injury back in September 2015, the young defender had stepped up his recovery to play for the Red Devils in August 2016. However, after Mourinho took over the reins, he has been out of favour and used sparingly.

Recent reports have said that the defender will be running down his contract and ultimately leave for free in the summer. There has been shocking speculation that Barcelona is keen to sign the 22-year-old, but nothing has been confirmed at this stage.

#2 Andreas Pereira

Barcelona v Valencia - Copa Del Rey
Pereira joined Valencia on a successful loan move

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons in La Liga on loan. Since making his senior debut for Manchester United in 2014, Pereira has only five appearances to his name. Under Mourinho, it seems extremely unlikely that he will have any future in Manchester.

The 22-year-old has a contract which is due in summer 2019, but Valencia are keen to get him on a permanent deal. His influence in the midfield has helped the Spanish side to a position in the top four. Meanwhile, Mourinho will have to put in a great deal of effort if he wishes to persuade the youngster to stay.

With experienced players such as Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata in the midfield, it seems too crowded to find a way to fit Pereira. Hence, the Brazilian may be better off joining the La Liga side from next season onwards.

#1 Matteo Darmian

Bristol City v Manchester United - Carabao Cup Quarter-Final
Darmian has hardly been seen all season

He made just 13 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season and one of his rare full 90 minutes game came against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

The Italian's contract is due next summer, but he has not been in Mourinho's team for a large part of the season. The versatile right-back is capable of playing down the flanks to support his team's attack, at the same time, he is calm and confident in his play, but he has not done enough to win Mourinho's trust.

When the summer transfer window opens, the Red Devils are extremely likely to work on getting more defenders into the team. As such, he will fall further back in terms of the pecking order so, in order to play more, the Italian could be forced to make a move this summer.

After the January transfer window concluded, there had been claims that the defender will be moving to Turin. The Premier League side is said to be prepared to let him leave after agreeing that there is little chance he has a future in the team.
