Werner failed to score at the World Cup

A poor summer at the World Cup shouldn’t distract from the fact that he is an excellent young striker. The German wasn’t alone in putting in poor performances for the Germans, and there was only so much he could do with the quality of the performances around him. He is still only 22 and has scored 34 goals in 63 games in the Bundesliga. He has been key to RB Leipzig’s impressive form over the last two seasons, which has seen them twice qualify for the Champions League.

This wasn’t a move many people talked about but was reported in Spanish paper Marca after a poll suggested a number of Real supporters wanted the club to sign Werner. Once again, he isn’t the biggest name. He is, however, a superb finisher, and would undoubtedly thrive in this Real Madrid team. He may need time to show what he is capable of doing at the Bernabeu, and that is something he may not be afforded.
