The special bond they have is from the fact that he shared the dressing room with the Barca genius as early as their youth days when they represented Argentina at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and the Olympic tournament in 2008.
The duo had enjoyed a lot of success during their youth days, winning both the Under-20 World Cup and the Olympic tournament.
Di Maria also joined Ronaldo at Real Madrid and played his first match with the Portuguese on August 4, 2010, in a friendly match against Mexican club, América. He also met some success with Ronaldo, winning the Champions League in 2014 as well as other trophies
The pair continued playing together for some time before Di Maria left for Manchester United in 2014. He is also one the few superstars who have experienced playing on the same pitch as the two, during the El Classicos in Spain.

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi is his favorite player and is the one true GOAT for him over Cristiano Ronaldo.
