Napoli forward Dries Mertens has been making headlines this past month owing to his record-equalling goal against Barcelona which took his tally to 121 for the club alongside Marek Hamsik. The Belgian, however, has still not signed a contract extension which could see him leave the Italian outfit on a free this summer.

Several reports have suggested that there have been ongoing talks with Mertens’ representatives and the Napoli bosses over a prolonged stay for the striker but at 32 years of age, he might seek for newer challenges before the end of his career.

Arsenal, consequently, have been linked with Mertens especially if Aubameyang departs this summer. Like the Gabon skipper, Mertens is a versatile forward who can be deployed anywhere in attack.
