5 reasons why Arsenal won't be recovering anytime soon

Wenger's days at Arsenal could finally be numbered.

Arsenal are having yet another shambolic season in 2017/18. It has been the same old story where the season begins with promise from Wenger, the club plays superbly in quite a few games and then everything simply falls apart.

Once the club starts denigrating, there is no stopping them. Eventually, there is a rage among the fans and they demand the same thing yet again, "Wenger Out". However, the same never happens.

Reports have surfaced which claim that possible replacements for Arsene Wenger are being considered at the Emirates. However, any such reports would be meaningless without any official backing from the club.

Here, is a look at the reasons why the Gunners would not be recovering from their traumatic state anytime soon.

#5 "Arsenal-Wenger" romance

FA Cup victory has salvaged Wenger's job on multiple occasions.

Arsenal currently sit sixth in the Premier League table having lost eight games already. They have crashed out of the FA Cup and lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City and face AC Milan in the knock-outs of Europa League.

Readers need absolutely no introduction to the stories of Wenger being ousted "nearly" or banners of "Wenger Out" displayed at Emirates. Whatever the fans have thrown towards Wenger, he has dodged them well.

FA Cup victories have seen Wenger's stay at the club increased time and time again over the years. The question now arises is that, will the Gunners be sacking Wenger if he lifts the Europa League with this team?

After all the misery faced by the fans this season, would a second-tier trophy guarantee the French boss another couple of years at the club? Well, honestly, it should not.

This summer, come what may, Arsenal have to end their grand alliance with Wenger, if they are willing to progress anytime soon.

#4 Emirates: Fortress or Fort-rests?

Emirates has been left unoccupied at times during Premier League encounters.

How would it feel if a 25-year-old from your rival club nets in front of the home crowd and celebrates in a Hollywood fashion teasing the fans? Well, Jesse Lingard would not be well-received at the Emirates next time.

Arsenal fans have been repeatedly been left embarrassed by their team's performances over the years. The latest defeat at home against Ostersund in the Europa League was a prime example of it.

The Gunners have failed to give any kind of home-ground factor which has often left the players demotivated. The criticism of the fans is not fair anyway because the team's football doesn't appears to be convincing.

Wenger's men have dropped points at home against Liverpool and Chelsea from winning positions. Their display in a 1-3 home defeat to rivals Manchester United was utterly humiliating.

If Arsenal hope for a speedy recovery, they need to revitalize the Emirates in any way possible. The main reason behind the success of Manchester clubs this season has been their home ground factor where they are actually the lions.

#3 Defensive chaos

<p>
Arsenal's defence is the leakiest of the Premier League's top seven at the moment.

The current Arsenal team boasts an attack which on their day can rip the finest of the defences apart. But then, only Arsenal are the team which carries the potential to blow up even its 5-0 half-time lead easily.

Such is the chaotic state of their defence that they cannot bank on a comfortable lead let alone taking a one goal cushion over the line. Sir Alex Ferguson had once said that, "Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles". Rightly said. Wenger's men have conceded 36 goals in the league alone so far.

They have already conceded goals at the rate of 1.33 goals per match. Arsenal have made 11 errors leading to goals and their tackling success is 69% this season in the league.

Burnley FC sit only behind Arsenal, they do not have the attack to match the elites of England but have shackled the creativity of the so-called "Big Six", time and time again. Sean Dyche's men have conceded eleven fewer goals than Arsenal this season at 0.89 goals per match.

Their goalkeeping department has let them down on multiple occasions. Peter Cech is no where near his best and commits errors often and is the area which needs recruitment for the club in the summer.

The point being made is that Arsenal need to revamp their defence completely. A team which has not been built from the back, fails to win anything in the foreseeable future.

#2 A purse big enough?

Arsenal may not have the budget to match the financial power of rival clubs.

Arsenal's squad is currently crying out for a massive clear-out. Players like Granit Xhaka, Per Mertesacker, Alex Iwobi to name a few, need to be shown the exit door as a part of clubs restructuring.

Arsenal need to make a lot of new signings in the upcoming transfer window and have to pay the inflated prices prevailing in the market. It remains to be seen if the London club has the financial prowess to do so.

Not to mention that the club would potentially be without European football next season. This means, Arsenal would be going through what Manchester United from 2014 went through - when Louis Van Gaal paid almost twice the sum for each player United signed.

Also, the wages to attract the top players to the club would be astronomical. Arsenal may or may not improve after such spending, but their books would definitely be left unbalanced.

Thus, any such revamp would have to be deferred over a period of at least two years so as to manage the finances.

#1 Success is more of a Journey

Liverpool have been the team to watch under Jurgen Klopp.

Even if Arsenal sack the French boss with immediate effect, it would not assure any instant success to the club. It would certainly be hard to fill in for the longest-serving manager in the Premier League with an unmatched experience.

When Sir Alex left United, the club had a shambolic spell of three years and only showed signs of recovery under Jose Mourinho in 2016/17. Similarly, Liverpool were never playing with such flair under Klopp - until the 2017/18 season - where they are ripping defences apart on their will.

Wenger parting ways with Arsenal would start a rehabilitation process for the club which could eventually lead them to glory in the forthcoming years. The start, however, needs to be made now.

The success is more of a journey than a destination. A new manager at Emirates would bring in a new philosphy, a new set of players, coaching staff and much more. It will take time before getting used to the changes at the club.

Thus, Arsenal would not be recovering anytime soon even if they sack Wenger today.
