5 reasons why Harry Kane will move to Real Madrid

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Spurs hitman is a target for Madrid

This is just going to happen, isn’t it? It’s been a long time since Real Madrid have spent big in the transfer market. With Barcelona doing exactly what they once despised about their eternal rivals, it is time for the capital club to do the same.

Right now, the key is to sign a goalscorer. With Karim Benzema’s lack of form and Cristiano Ronaldo’s evident decline due to age, it is about time that Madrid signed someone who can guarantee goals. And is there anyone better to sign than the best number 9 in the world: Harry Kane?

The Englishman broke the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi duopoly of being the highest goal scorer in Europe in a calendar year. He scored 56 goals for Tottenham Hotspur in the calendar year of 2017—more than any other player in the world.

And now, Madrid are circling around him—and here are 5 reasons why the transfer will happen…

#5 Tradition

When something happens continuously for a span of time, it becomes a tradition and we can always expect it to be repeated. When Luka Modric was wreaking havoc against other teams in the Premier League while at Tottenham, Madrid came and snapped him up.

And then when Gareth Bale became the most prominent figure for the Lilywhites, he too was acquired by the Blancos for a then world record fee. And now, Harry Kane is flying high in the colours of Tottenham and Madrid would want to keep the tradition going.

With 56 goals in the last calendar year, he is the perfect player for the club. In fact, his signing is likely to cost a fortune—somewhere around the yet-untouched £200 million mark—making him the most expensive player of all time.

And keeping the tradition intact.

#4 Need

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton - Premier League
Madrid need Kane

Tradition alone doesn’t suffice, a move of this magnitude always arises from necessity. Indeed, everything in the world arises from the need for it—and Madrid need a goalscorer right now. Karim Benzema has been in atrocious form. The Frenchman has scored 5 goals from 20 games so far this season and didn’t really have a great campaign last season either.

While his mindblowing skill against Atletico Madrid might have helped Madrid get out of a potentially dangerous position last season, pulling off just one skill move in over 2 years isn’t really enough from a striker who plays for Real Madrid.

And then there is Cristiano Ronaldo’s decline in form, which is quite disconcerting. He is going to be 33 in February and there is no way that age won’t catch up with him somewhere down the line.

As a result, Madrid NEED someone who could do the bulk of the scoring for the club—and Harry Kane is one of the best players for the job.

#3 Statement

One of the things that set Madrid apart from the other clubs is their willingness to make a statement after some quiet transfer windows. Added to that, Barcelona have made two marquee signings in the form of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho.

So it is about time for the construction magnate Florentino Perez to go gung-ho in the transfer market.

When Barcelona were dominating everything, Perez came in and splashed the cash on Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Although it didn’t work instantly, the long-term rewards were significant.

In fact, his £86 million outlay of Gareth Bale wasn’t too bad either as the Welshman scored the winning goals in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey finals.

So now, the best way for Perez to make a statement is to sign the best player of the Premier League—which is, as of now, Harry Kane.

#2 Leap

England v Switzerland - UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier
A small step for Madrid, a giant leap for Kane

All this time, I have been writing about things from Madrid’s perspective. Now, however, it is time to move to the player’s point of view. There is not a reason why a player wouldn’t want to move to Real Madrid.

Moving to the Madrid outfit is a step up for any player—a giant leap in his career. For almost every player, moving to Real Madrid is the ultimate goal. It is for this reason that both Gareth Bale and Luka Modric moved to the Galacticos despite being happy at Tottenham.

The lure of the Bernabeu is difficult to say no to. While Harry Kane may be a Spurs fan through and through—he is their academy product—there is no way he can say no to the Merengues should the offer come to him.

However, there is also another reason to join Real Madrid. Recently, he stated that he would stay with the Lilywhites if they won some…

#1 Trophies

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - Premier League
Running for glory is the ultimate goal

It all comes down to this, doesn’t it? For every player, the main incentive to play the game is winning. No player wants to lose. Yes, money is a big factor for a player to do what he does, but winning trophies is the ultimate dream for every player.

At Tottenham, Kane is enjoying the best period of his individual career. However, he has no trophies to show for it. It is for this reason why he added the clause of “winning” trophies with Spurs in order to be happy to stay.

Both Gareth Bale and Luka Modric moved to Madrid to win trophies—and win they did. For Kane, the same is the case as he would like to end his career as one of the most decorated players in the world. Currently, at Spurs, that is not happening—which is a cause of concern for both him and the club.

At Madrid, he has more chances to win trophies than he does at Spurs—and that is why he will move to the Bernabeu.
