5 reasons why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a perfect fit for Liverpool

Will Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave Borussia Dortmund this month?

Transfer rumours linking Liverpool with some of Europe's best players continue following the departure of Philippe Coutinho. The Reds have recently been tipped to pursue Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who could reportedly leave the German Bundesliga side in this transfer window in search of a new challenge.

The striker arrived at the Signal Iduna Park in 2013 and has since caught the eye of some of the continent's biggest clubs with consistent performances for Dortmund. Aubameyang is likely to command a huge transfer fee should Liverpool be interested in him but here are five reasons why he could just be worth it.

#1 Goals

Aubameyang is known as one of the Bundesliga's deadliest finishers.

The first and most obvious reason why any club would buy Aubameyang is his excellent ability to score goals. The Gabon international is considered one of the deadliest finishers both in the Bundesliga and Europe, as his 18 goals in all competitions for Dortmund can attest.

Over his time in Germany, Aubameyang's goals have been a consistent story of improvement. From scoring 13 goals in his debut Bundesliga season, the striker has gone on to score 16 in 2014/15, 25 in 2015/16 and his best career tally of 31 last season.

Add to this the fact that the Dortmund striker is a poacher, who tends to get into advanced positions and can score using both feet or his head and Liverpool would be getting an all-round goal-scorer should they purchase Aubameyang.

#2 Pace

Aubameyang is ridiculously quick!

Aubameyang is one of the fastest players in world football, if not indeed the fastest. The 28-year-old once covered a reported 30 meters in just 3.7 seconds - proof that he is capable of giving any defender in the world a good run for their money!

That quality means a huge plus for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German often builds his teams on speed and clinical execution, attributes that his former player would offer in abundance.

Liverpool are, by all accounts, a counter-attacking team and adding Aubameyang's pace to their line-up would certainly make them a much more lethal side in counter-attacking situations.

#3 Aubameyang suits Klopp's style of football

Having brought him to Dortmund five years ago when he was in charge, Reds boss Klopp will already know everything there is to know about Aubameyang as a player and could find reuniting with the striker a good idea for his Liverpool team.

The Gabon international would easily fit into Klopp's counter-pressing style at Anfield, having experienced it before and would be recognised as a vital player in the system, which also means he may not need even a minute to settle in the side.

#4 An entertainer

Aubameyang loves a somersault!

In more ways than one, Aubameyang is a born entertainer. On the pitch, he does it through his goals but most importantly - in this context - his celebrations.

The Dortmund player loves the somersault (don't try this one at home) and has a passion for Marvel comics, so don't be surprised if he pulls out a Spiderman mask every now and then.

The significance of that is it brings character to any team he plays for and considering that Liverpool have a couple of characters themselves (i.e Roberto Firmino) adding one more surely wouldn't hurt.

#5 Signing him sends out a statement

Finally, signing Aubameyang would undoubtedly send out a huge statement from Liverpool: that they mean business both now and in the future.

The Reds have just lost Coutinho to Barcelona, a move that has left many connected with the club very disappointed, so signing a top-class player as the Brazilian's replacement would be the lift that fans and the team needs for the rest of the season.

He may be cup-tied in the UEFA Champions League but that could only be a blessing in disguise, as it keeps him fit for domestic competitions, which Liverpool are still very active in.
