When Spain won the World Cup in 2010, they only conceded 2 goals during the entire tournament and both were in the group stage. After only one game in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, they have crossed that tally thanks to Ronaldo’s hat-trick.

Ronaldo’s hat-trick is not only the first hat-trick of the WC 2018, it is also the first hat-trick scored against Spain at the FIFA World Cup.

This was a repeat of a similar record achieved by Thomas Muller four years ago when he became the first and so far the only player to score a World Cup hat-trick against Portugal.

In the history of the World Cup, most hat-tricks have been scored against South Korea (4), followed by West Germany (3), Belgium (3) and Poland (3). There have also been two hat-tricks against Brazil.
